New season spray diaries available soon

The new dried grape industry spray diary will be available to growers next week.

Updated for use during the 2019/20 season, the diary will be mailed out to all Dried Fruits Australia members. Non-members will be able to purchase the diary for $35 from the DFA office.

This is also our annual reminder to check before you grab your usual fungicide, herbicide or pesticide out of your chemical store. Some chemicals approved for use in previous season’s spray diaries have been deleted for reasons including loss of registration, pending loss of registration, or lack of maximum residue limits (MRLs) in export markets.

Examples of chemicals deleted in the last few years include Captan, Iprodione, Chlorpyrifos, Dimethoate, Thiram, propineb, Zineb, Oxadixyl, Tradimefon, Trchlorfon and Cyanamide.

Please also remember to check label rates for chemical application. Sometimes, small changes to formulations of common chemicals mean significant changes to the application rates. All fruit deliveries to processors are now laboratory tested for the common chemicals used by growers to ensure MRLs are met.

Secure your Hort Innovation AGM voting rights

For Hort Innovation members who pay a statutory or voluntary industry levy, completing an annual levy return form is the way to secure voting rights for their annual general meeting on 22 November.

Paying a levy doesn’t automatically make you a member of Hort Innovation. You can become a member by submitting a free application by 12 September. You’ll then receive all the necessary levy return information from Link Market Services, the independent provider managing the process.

If you’re already a member, you should have received a letter and email with all the details.

The completed form must be received by 27 September. For more information, visit the Hort Innovation website or call Link on 1800 660 083.
