A Prayer for Labor Day
Many will use this holiday weekend to rest and get away from everyday routines. If you are one of those people, may your rest be fruitful! On Sunday, we will pray the below prayer together for all who work. Whether you are joining in the worship service or away for the weekend, please take a few moments to consider, before the Lord, your work and the work of others.

Almighty God, whose Son Jesus Christ in labored as a carpenter in his earthly life, be with your people wherever they work and help us do our work in truth and goodness, being renewed as we need to be through your Holy Spirit.
You have joined our lives with one with another, so that all we do affects all other lives, for good or bad: So guide us in the work we do, that we may do it not for ourselves or our families alone, but for the common good.
Help us to know more of who you are — our Creator and Sustainer — through our daily work.
Give us grace and perseverance to build relationships with those we labor alongside. Give us words that are healing in the workplace, rather than hurtful. Help us to see all others as ones you have made.
God of justice, we pray for all workers, that they would receive fair pay and treatment in their labor.
For those who seek work, provide jobs.
May those who lead the businesses and organizations of our community honor you and follow your will.
Deliver us, Lord Jesus, from the evils of greed, laziness, and gluttony that we may lead lives of holiness in service to you and our neighbor.
We ask all these things for our good and your glory.

Fall Tutors Needed -- Weekday Evenings
Firm Foundation Tutoring

Firm Foundation Tutoring is a vital ministry of New City South. It was started to build relationships with the children in our community and show them the love of Christ. Children work one-on-one with volunteer tutors, receiving help with their homework and having a time of devotions.

Fall tutors are needed—no education background required. Tutoring will take place at New City South on the following days and times:

  • Monday 5:30-7:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday 4:00-5:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday 5:30-7:00 p.m.
  • Thursday 4:00-5:30 p.m.

Individuals who cannot commit for an entire semester can become a substitute tutor and join in as able.

Please consider how you can be part of this ministry. High-school-age students are also welcome to become tutors.

There is one other location for tutoring in St. Louis, West End area, if that is more accessible to you.
For more information or to volunteer, contact: Kristen Flores at kristen@ncfstl.org or 314-278-6960.

A new-tutor orientation will take place at church on Monday, August 26 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Please plan to attend if you will serve as a tutor.

Adult Education: The Book of Daniel for You
Begins Sunday, September 15, 9:00 a.m

Each day, we live our lives in a world where many do not acknowledge God. It was much the same for Daniel. Adult Education this Fall will focus on the book of Daniel and help us grow in 1) reading and applying Scripture to our lives, 2) seeing Christ in the Old Testament, and 3) learning how to approach Old Testament historical writing and prophesy. Childcare will be provided.

Seminary Student Lunch
Sunday, September 22, after worship service
As a new school year begins, Andrew and Jillian Perkins are hosting a lunch for seminary students and their families. All seminary students are welcome. If you meet a visiting seminary student at church, please let him/her know about the lunch--information will also be in the church bulletin. For more information, email Andrew: andrewhjalmer@gmail.com.

Considering Individuals to Nominate
Elder, Deacon, and Women’s Leadership Council
As we continue through the 1 Timothy sermon series, please consider individuals in the church you may want to nominate to serve as an elder, deacon or member of the Women’s Leadership Council. Please send any nomination ideas you have to Pastor Roy: rhubbard@ncfstl.org.

The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 1 Timothy 1:14
