“Let us go forward in Christ's name as a community of faith; to grow in faith through worship, witness and love for one another and our neighbor”
— St. Anne's Mission Prayer

St. Anne's Episcopal Church is a vibrant, energetic, optimistic, fun, and loving community of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington located in Upper Montgomery County, MD. As Episcopalians we believe in a loving, liberating, and life-giving God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We are descendants of and partners with the Church of England and the Scottish Episcopal Church, and are part of the third largest group of Christians in the world.

We believe in following the teachings of Jesus Christ, whose life, death, and resurrection saved the world.

Ours is a legacy of inclusion. We aspire to tell and exemplify God’s love for every human being. We believe that God loves you – no exceptions.

Forces all over the world cause people to be be “bent and broken” and unable to stand up straight; relegating them to the margins of society. As Jesus saw the woman who had been bent over from an ailment for 18 years, we, as Christians, are meant to see those whom the world causes to be broken and bent over and are meant to help them stand up straight. Liberating them and at the same time liberating ourselves from what binds us. Listen to last Sunday's sermon by clicking the image.

Did you pick up a Green Beverage bottle by accident?

Last Sunday one of our parishioners had a green Contigo sitting in the parish hall. There was a similar one on the table but unlike his it had the original labels still on it and was filled with water - where his had coffee. Please check to see if you picked it up by accident - thanks!
Stewardship is a year round event!  This is why we support our church.

Stewardship 2020 - Living Our Mission
September 15th our 2020 giving campaign begins

As we get ready to begin our Living Our Mission Giving Campaign for 2020 here is some information you may find helpful, adapted from Dave Ramsey, a leading and respected personal money management expert.

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.

Three big principles of any solid financial plan are to save, spend, and to give. Most people forget about the giving part, though, because they think mostly about saving and spending.

But giving—specifically tithing—is just as important. It softens the heart of the giver and frees their soul from dependence on money. You’ll never walk away from giving feeling bad! Giving comes in many forms, with your tithe being the most important, because it’s a biblical mandate.

What is a tithe?

Let’s start with the basics. Simply put, the tithe is the first 10% of your income that should be given to your local church. It’s strictly measured in money, so you can’t replace it with giving your time or your talents. The Episcopal Church holds that each of us should be moving towards the giving of the tithe.

What's the difference between a tithe and an offering?

A tithe is an amount (a percentage of your income) and an offering is anything given beyond that, but not in place of the tithe.

After you’ve tithed, you can give in other ways: Giving a cash offering to your church above and beyond the tithe, giving money to a charity you support, giving to a friend or neighbor in need, or giving of your time or talents. Not only does giving of your money or other resources generate good in the lives of others, it also generates contentment in your heart.

Why Tithe?

The tithe was not put into place for God’s benefit—He already has everything He needs. He doesn’t need our money! (And "our" money is already His anyway.)

Tithing is an act of obedience and should be given freely with pure motives. In other words, we give without expecting anything back in return. And it teaches us to be good stewards of what God has given us.

Tithing was created for our benefit. It teaches us how to keep God first in our lives and how to live unselfishly. Unselfish people make better spouses, friends, relatives, employees and employers. And they usually have better finances. God is trying to teach us how to prosper over time.

Ultimately, it is a decision between you and God, but without your support the community we call St. Anne's can not live our mission. Please begin to prayerfully consider how you will honor God and support your community of St. Anne's.

Music Notes

The choir is delighted to welcome our newest members, Hugh Mace and Cheri Leffler.

This Sunday, Kristie Taylor and Kim Hill will be playing a wonderful handbell duet of Amazing Grace. Mark Trombone will be singing the American folk hymn Jesus Died on Calvary’s Mountain.

The Vocal Choir will be returning to its regular schedule next week, with rehearsals on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. Our own, very talented talented, Joan Ward, made fantastic new scapulars for the choir. You may have seen them last spring. She made blue scapulars that we wear on regular Sundays and white ones that we wear on special Sundays. Here is Joan modeling the scapulars ... (See attached photos).

Like to sing? Be like Hugh and Cheri and come join us for a rehearsal on a Thursday evening and give us a try. We rehearse every Thursday starting at 7:30 p.m. Not sure or have questions? Talk to Rachel, our Organist/Music Director or any member of the vocal choir on Sunday. We especially need sopranos and altos.

Bell Choir – Want to know what it feels like to play the bells? Now is your chance! After the 10:00 am service Steve Mullen will be available in the choir area to talk to you about bells and demonstrate bell playing. You can even have a go at playing a bell. Come join us and find out what it’s all about. We need more Ringers so that we can play three octaves pieces.

Update on Lib Cain

Lib continues to do well and has enjoyed the calls and visits from her St. Anne's Family.

She says the best time to call is before or after supper, around 4:30 or 7:30 PM. They usually do PT mid-late morning and she likes to sleep after lunch.

She can not always get to the phone so try again later if she doesn’t pick up.

Her strength is coming back slowly and her constitution remains strong although she is still eating lightly.

November 10, 4:30 p.m.  Kim Weitkamp, storyteller.   Kim Weitkamp is a storyteller at the top of her craft.  She can be described in many ways---speaker, storyteller, humorist, singer and songwriter.  She blends humor and heartache, seriousness and silliness, and links them together with music in her stories.  She performs for tens of thousands of people a year, nationally and internationally, at festivals and theaters.  She keynotes for Forbes companies and boasts a mantel full of awards. Kim is always creating and recording new material and producing award-winning albums.  Her stories are memorable and easy to enjoy. Come to experience her talents for yourself.  THIS CONCERT IS RESCHEDULED FROM THE SNOW CANCELLATION IN FEBRUARY 2019.
