Today was the day of the big sponsored skate and our brilliant skaters didn’t let us down!
Here are the 3.5 milers at the start line, looking fresh and ready to go!
They set off from St Johns Community Centre Car park and blazed down the trail, practicing heel braking, T-stops, jumping, parallel turns and more!
They skated on with a break at the housing estate off Green Road to practice cool tricks like jumping and parallel turns.
The skaters continued down the trail to the bridge over Green Road where they met the group who were skating 1 mile! Here’s their start photo-
As they set off from Green Road, the weather started to take a turn and so came the drizzle! Our brave adventurers carried on despite the puddles forming (it’s hard to skate in the wet!).
The 1-mile crew finished and don’t they look victorious!
The 3.5 milers continued, and after some more hard work…. They made it!
So, all our skaters have been being sponsored for doing this challenge. The aim was to raise as much money as possible towards installing picture windows between the hall and what will be the cafe area after the refurbishment. These windows will allow spectators to sit in the peace and quiet of the cafe whilst still being able to watch the skating or classes that are going on in the main hall. We really think they’ll add to the atmosphere in the new centre, but as they’re a luxury extra, we’re fundraising for them rather than applying for grants for them!
Can you spare a few pounds to sponsor our skaters? They totally deserve it! They got soaked for us…
