Keynote Address: Facebook and Free Speech: An Update

Facebook’s Brent Harris will join Cato’s John Samples for an important conversation on Facebook and free speech. Social media companies find themselves called upon to both protect speech and enforce standards necessary to ensure open discourse on the platform. Facebook has responded to this challenge by creating an Oversight Board to balance voice and safety. Brent Harris, who oversees this effort at Facebook, will bring us up to speed on this effort and its implications for liberty in the rapidly emerging digital era.

Luncheon Address: Zero to a Billion

The world-famous founder of Cypress Semiconductor, T. J. Rodgers holds patents ranging from semiconductors to winemaking and is known for his no-holds-barred defense of free markets and laissez-faire capitalism. In his talk, "Zero to a Billion," T. J. will share some of the secrets of his success in building Cypress—and the values that were integral to this success.

California’s War on the Poor

Building on his book The Inclusive Economy, Michael Tanner will be directing Cato’s Project on Poverty and Inequality in California. This two-year effort will study how, despite a growing economy and pockets of extreme wealth, California has the nation’s highest poverty rate and extreme levels of inequality. By examining how government missteps have fueled these problems, we hope to open the state’s economy to greater participation by the poor and those struggling under the burdens of bad policy.
Individual attendees: $75.00 Per Person
Table of eight attendees: $525.00 Per Table
