Kathleen Yow-Wells Charter Member Illuminating Women
As a child, I was intrigued by the power of touch to heal. My healing career path began in 1979 with Naturopath Physicians specializing in detoxification. During this time, I earned my massage license and studied many treatment modalities in depth.
In 1987, I founded Eastside Wellness Center in downtown Kirkland. Over the years, I’ve combined my training, knowledge, and experience to create a healing style that is truly unique and effective in reducing chronic musculoskeletal conditions, pain, effects of trauma, and digestive/elimination issues.
What do I do in my spare time? I’ve been a very satisfied customer and a proud Marketing Executive with Melaleuca, the Wellness Company since 2008. I enjoy introducing and educating folks to chemical-free living and healing which starts at home.

Five Easy Ways to Find New Clients
by Diana Khoury
The biggest challenge I hear from small business owners is that they don’t know how to find new clients.
I hear this over and over and want you to know it can be easy– and free– to find your next great client. Here are five simple tips for connecting with prospects who are ready to work with you, so you can start booking more appointments. 1. Check your voicemail messages
It’s important to check your voicemail messages regularly– and return them in a timely manner. If you’re ignoring your voicemail, you could be missing out on potential new clients.
Also, over 50% of web searches are now done via mobile, so Google yourself to confirm that the phone # that comes up in search results is the correct one. 2. Check your spam folder
You never know what’s lurking in your Spam folder, and it could be a new client. Our Spam boxes filters out lots of junk, but it sometimes catches good emails in its net. Make the time to check your Spam folder regularly (at least weekly) to make sure you’re not missing any messages from potential clients. 3. Test your Contact form
Does the Contact form on your website work? Have you tested it recently? I can share many instances where I emailed someone (including a couple of people in Illuminating Women) through their web contact form and never heard back. If I am interested in your products or services and you don't respond, this is money left on the table.
To avoid this scenario, have a friend or colleague email you through your website Contact form to confirm the messages are being received on your end. You work hard to get traffic to your website, so make it easy for site visitors to reach you when they’re ready to book. 4. Turn an old client into a new client
I just returned from a Marketing Bootcamp in Chicago and a concept emphasized repeatedly throughout the conference is that your existing customer base is your cheapest and best source for new sales. Whether they purchase from you directly or recommend you to others, they are your low hanging fruit when it comes to marketing.
Revisit your past client list. Review the products or services they received from you and the benefits they reported as a result. Check back in to ask how they’re doing and if you can continue to support them in any way. You might just be surprised at who becomes an active client again. 5. Ask current clients for referrals
Another great way to get new clients is a recommendation from a current client. Tell your regulars you’re accepting new clients and would appreciate their referrals.
They may love your work, but people don’t always know who to refer or how to explain what you do. Be specific about what type of client you’re looking for, such as “a woman with back pain who wants to find relief without drugs or surgery,” or “a single woman in tech who’s looking to buy her first home on the Eastside.”
The more specific you are, the easier it is for current clients to refer others to you. In Summary
Surprising as it may seem, you could be missing out on prospects who’ve already tried to contact you. Use the above methods to discover how easy it can be to find new (and ideal) clients who may already be looking for you. Testimonial Article submitted by Lisa Fischer My Illuminating Women Story
My first introduction to Illuminating Women was as a guest speaker. I recall the warmth, grace and diversity of the group to be quite intriguing. Jill's heart for education is what cemented additional participation and I returned on a panel with two other amazing stylists. Working side by side with colleagues I admire and respect impacted my committment for giving towards a committed cause. Membership is being connected with like minded women wether here in the USA or traveling together around the world, which we have done. Grateful.

At Conquer Peru, we love connecting travelers with local businesses and organizations that make a difference. One of these amazing organizations that we will visit in Ollantaytambo is Awamaki, a nonprofit that empowers Peruvian women and girls to be financially independent by helping them start and run their own businesses.
What’s great about Awamaki, which means “handmade” in Quechua, is its goal to create a lasting impact – the nonprofit helps women provide for their families and improve their well-beings without being dependent on anyone organization. The decade-old program has connected 170 women who live in the rural villages outside Cusco to global markets. These artisans weave, knit, spin and sew while gaining additional training in quality control, product development and technical skills improvement from Awamaki. This could be by learning color combination and fiber selection, for example. Awamaki also invests in the women’s skills and leadership, providing training in client cultivation, banking and more.
The result is a variety of gorgeous and unique handcrafted artisan pieces, from bags woven from non-toxic dyed wool to gloves knitted from hand-spun alpaca fleece that can be bought at the local fair-trade store or internationally online. And with Awamaki, consumers know the women behind the products and how these products are made. During our visit, Awamaki will connect us with these amazing women and their stories, as well as their culture and communities.
Beyond the fair-trade artisan cooperative, Awamaki also runs a sustainable tourism program and a Language Centre, where visitors can take Quechua and Spanish lessons from locals.
“I founded Awamaki in the belief that income in the hands of women is the best way to lift communities out of poverty,” said Seattleite Kennedy Leavens, the founder and executive director of Awamaki, on the nonprofit’s website. “Awamaki gives women in remote places access to the modern economy so that they can invest in their children, homes and communities as they see fit.”
