President's Message

Dear FAYM family.

I welcome all our FAYM family!!

We are glad and like to assure you that this year will be better than the previous ones. We would like to thank all the families who took the time to attend FAYM Orientation Night on ELVCC as well as PCC.

It was a pleasure to see all the returning families, and to see the new ones who we are hoping to meet and serve.

It is with great pleasure that I announce that FAYM keeps growing and this year we will partner with East Las Vegas Library where we will start violin lessons to students of first and second grades.

FAYM Brings Violins to the Library

FAYM is excited to begin a "Violins for Kids" program for 1st and 2nd graders at the new East Las Vegas Library (2851 E. Bonanza Rd.). An Information and Registration Session for parents and students will be held on Thursday, September 12th at 4pm with weekly lessons beginning on September 19th.

The program is tuition-free, but donations are gladly accepted. For more information, please write to FAYM@live.com.

The East Las Vegas Library, is located at 2851 E. Bonanza Road. Getting a head start on their music experience, area youngsters will begin at the Library and then progress to the East Las Vegas Community Center, which is just minutes away.

To Those Who Make FAYM Possible

Dear students, parents, and friends of FAYM,

Summer vacation is officially over and FAYM is ready to start classes for the 2019/2020 school year. These hot summer months however were filled with work, planning, and meetings to make sure that we would be ready to have all things organized and in place.

A special thanks to the FAYM Board who met several times during the summer to plan and organize. Some Board Members worked on grant writing while others worked on finances and acquiring classroom space. Mr. Thomas put in some long hours working on curriculum, staff assignments, scheduling, etc., etc., etc.

For the past several years we have been very fortunate that Councilman Bob Coffin of Ward 3 worked out details to allow FAYM to use the East Las Vegas Community Center at no charge. Mr. Coffin did not run for re-election this year and the Ward 3 Council Seat was won by Olivia Diaz this June. The FAYM board contacted her and set up a meeting to discuss continuing with the no charge agreement.  We met with Councilwoman Diaz in July to discuss this with her.  She was very supportive and interested in what FAYM does for our students and suggested we meet with Councilman Stavros Anthony, Ward 4 and Councilwoman Victoria Seaman, Ward 2 to discuss our program and see if they were also in support. Because of these three City Council members working together, FAYM was given permission to continue using the facility at no charge!

A large part of our budget is used for staff salaries and instrument/supply purchases. Without the fee waiver arranged by Councilwoman Diaz, Councilman Stavros Anthony, and Councilwoman Victoria Seaman, FAYM would have to take monies from the budget to rent classroom space. This would probably mean fewer classes with more students in each class and not allow us to grow and expand.

Thank you to all the individuals that work hard to assure that FAYM can continue providing this wonderful opportunity to our youth!
