September 2019
Dear <<First Name>>,

Are you doing a pre-holiday spruce before relatives visit for the holiday season? One of the quickest ways to breathe new life into your home is a fresh coat of paint on the walls. It is a perfect time of year for painting projects. If you renew spaces in your home now, you can fight off the winter doldrums during time spent indoors over the coming winter. You can also impress guests with your fresh style.

Sherwin-Williams 2020 Colormix® Forecast

Color has an influence on our moods, but due to individual preferences and cultural differences, working with color doesn’t fall under a one-size-fits-all approach. Choosing paint colors for your home can be a difficult choice. After all, you’re going to have to live with whatever colors you pick for years to come! Your choice depends on whether you are keeping existing furnishings and décor or doing a complete redecoration of your space. Are you painting multiple rooms? Do you want something timeless or something trendy? Palettes help continuity within your home, so maintain a sense of flow from room to room.

The Palettes

Alive: Optimistic and authentic, Alive centers around being present and soaking up every moment. Nurturing neutrals are artfully arranged with rich blues and a deep, ripe olive that evoke a satisfying and rejuvenating sense of community and living well. When using this palette, incorporate materials and finishes that are locally sourced, handmade, and reflective of care and craftsmanship. (above)

Mantra: East meets West in this serene collection of softly muted neutrals that glide from warm to cool. Nordic simplicity entwines with the order and elegance of Japanese aesthetics to create a look that’s simple, yet utterly essential. Mantra lends itself to clean lines, minimal ornamentation, warm metals, and rounded forms. (above)

Play: This energetic and clever palette exudes charm through buoyant, playful color. Anchored by a fresh, pure white, it’s peppered with surprising pops of bright pink, aqua, and gold and balanced through monochromatic neutrals. Its mission is to add joy and warmth to every space it touches. Lean into Play by sourcing unique lighting, fun patterns, and varied textures. (below left)

Haven: Like being welcomed home with open arms, this nature-inspired palette beckons to those who seek to transform their space into an oasis. Drawing upon Earth’s seasonal cycles, it features rich, yet subtle shades of sea, sand, forest, and sky to organically bring the outdoors in. Extend Haven into décor through sustainably sourced materials and biophilic features. (above right)

Heart: A confluence of genres and emotions, Heart is a unique fusion of iconic modern design mixed with an intergenerational boho vibe. From silky neutral tones to clove and soft coral, these hues are a meditation in comfort, connection, and pleasures found in the everyday. This palette pairs well with retro-inspired accessories and warm, earthy finishes. (right)

According to Sue Wadden, director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams, “We expect 2020 to be an empowering year of change that will focus on bringing your best self into the new decade.” Wadden and the Global Forecast Team of color professionals spent the year researching color, design, and pop culture trends across the globe, all culminating in a collaborative workshop to build this collection of simple, clean, and essential hues.
