Beer Sailing Club Newsletter
August is always a busy month in the Lyme Bay Sailing Calendar with 4 regattas spread across the month with Beer Regatta right in the middle. With so many local regattas in a short space of time, club sailing is scaled back to encourage participation at our neighbour's events.

In addition to the packed Beer Regatta Schedule, there has been the 5th Sailing Development day and multiple social evenings on our beautiful Balcony overlooking the bay.
Regatta Week

Despite strong winds and rough seas leading to the cancellation of the dinghy and cruiser racing on the opening Saturday, Regatta was a very busy and ultimately successful week in the club.  We kicked off with bacon baps and refreshments all day and by Saturday evening, the weather had improved to allow a sell-out steak BBQ on the terrace.  Wednesday afternoon saw us hosting another successful Regatta Cream Tea and then in the evening the Spoofing competition attracted record numbers of participants.  On Regatta day, we were again providing refreshments all day (some of us are still recovering from the cakes) and then rounded the week off with another sell-out, this time pork baps, and then a fabulous view of the fireworks from the terrace.

It was really good to see the clubhouse really buzzing – a massive thank you to all of you volunteers who helped in making it such an enjoyable week....it wouldn’t happen without your input!
Sailing Development Days

The August Sailing Development Day attracted more than 15 improving sailors and was supported by some experienced hands both on the water and the beach.  They were treated to some exciting sailing given the blustery winds and rougher than expected seas, but we still managed to get everyone out on the water.....even if this was accompanied by an experienced helm.  We have now held five such sessions this year and as a result have attracted numerous new members to the club and had some relaxed and fun social events in the evenings.  It has been great to see all the club boats being deployed and encouraging to see an increasing number of younger sailors and their parents out on the water.  The final development day of this season is next Saturday 14th September to be followed by a “Pie and Pud” supper which is open to all members, not just those who sail.     Advanced booking for both sailing and refreshments is essential with food orders needing to be confirmed by 8th September.
Skittles
The Beer Skittles League is starting up again for the autumn/winter season, and the first match will be on Tuesday 24 September at 7.30pm at the Dolphin Hotel.
And Beer Sailing Club needs to have a team for that first match, as we’re the first ones to play.
Last winter 14 members of Beer Sailing Club took part in one or more of these skittles matches in the village.
We’re looking for members to come forward and have a fun evening through the darker months to come.
If you’d like to have a go, please let Chris Pickles know via chris@picklesnet.com .
