Dear friend,

We hope this newsletter finds you well!

Transformed lives; that’s what missions is all about. And that’s what this summer was all about! Lives that are never the same again because they experienced Jesus at work. We have seen this transformation happening in the lives of our DTS students who are about to go on outreach. We have seen this transformation happening in the lives of young people in the party scene who encountered Jesus as we prayed for them. We have seen this transformation in the lives of the kids that were part of our ‘Deeper Camp,’ but also in the lives of the many teenagers, young adults and families who came to serve in our different ministries this summer.

Now, at the end of this full and busy summer, we are tired but happy. We love Jesus and we love how he works and partners with us to see his Kingdom grow and expand in this world. But in order to give out, we need to receive, so at the end of this month we will all go on a well-deserved retreat together. Looking forward to it!

‘Til next time!

SNO
In the past year, we featured stories on our Summer Nightlight Outreach ministry. This time, we have Bart, the visionary behind SNO to share with us how this has all started and what has happened this year.

How it all started

Our leadership had gathered together for a retreat in the fall of 2015. As we were praying for guidance, we sensed God challenging us to minister into those areas that make up the identity of our city. Since we are on the Black Sea our thoughts immediately went out to the harbor and the holiday resorts. In the early summer of 2017 we had a DTS team from YWAM Biarritz, France serving with us. I had been hearing stories about their evangelism outreaches in the party scene of their surfers resort and figured we could learn from them. So in June 2017 we took our first team into the clubbing areas of Mamaia. That same summer two more teams followed, all helping us to discover what works well and what doesn’t. By the end of that summer we had found the two different tools that we’ve continued using ever since.

In the meantime, as I had been sharing my heart and vision for this outreach to develop, impacting the young men and women of Romania, Jim Orred (an elder within YWAM) challenged me: He told me that he was intrigued by this vision of reaching the party scene and he envisioned
YWAM teams going and sharing the gospel in all the party resorts of Europe. When Jim said these words, I got goosebumps over my whole body and I couldn’t think of anything else other than how to make this happen.

Last year

So we started planning for the summer of 2018. We wanted to run Summer Nightlife Outreach a whole summer in Constanta first before bringing it to Europe. By recruiting teams and volunteers to come we were able to run the ministry for two months straight, six nights a week. We gained a lot of experience and grew a lot.

This summer

So the next step was to bring Summer Nightlife Outreach to Europe. After nine months of praying, planning, networking, recruiting, and more planning it was finally happening: on the 15th of July, one by one the participants started finding their way to the training facility of YWAM Barcelona. We had three days of awesome teaching in which we incorporated an outreach in Barcelona’s nightlife. After these three days we send three teams out into three different party locations: Albufeira Portugal, Hvar Croatia and Thessaloniki Greece. We have seen Jesus move very powerfully in each one of the outreaches. We are so grateful for all that He has done. All of it came from Jesus, was for Jesus, was with Jesus, and unto Jesus. To him be the glory! Amen!

Summer Nightlife Outreach 2019: Testimonies

God loves the fatherless and those who take care of them. One night in Albufeira,  God brought to us a British Woman who is a mother of two, as well as being a foster mother for two more children of her late sister. We prayed for this mother and ministered God’s love for her on the street, reaffirming God’s care and provision over her family despite a challenging season. God delights in the sacrificial love that this woman hopes to show to the two orphan children! Her eyes were full of tears of joy and gratefulness and said that she received something so beautiful. She was unchurched but is considering maybe going to church again. God loves the fatherless and motherless and those who go the extra mile to lay down their lives for them.

During our first time on the streets, some of us were asking God to lead usto people who needed His love. I wasn’t receiving any impressions or direction; so, feeling quite unspiritual, I pointed to a man sitting on a bench and said “let’s talk to that guy.” I told him we were Christians and that we saw him sitting and wanted to talk to him. He said, “sure, let’s go for a walk”. We didn’t get very far before he told us he’d been seeking Jesus. Although a Hindu from India, he had been feeling drawn to the cross since moving to Barcelona one year ago. He said he sometimes felt like he wanted a cross on him somehow, but wasn’t sure if his religion would allow it. He’d recently gone to a church to sit inside for an hour and feel some peace. We prayed with him and He encountered something; he saw rays of light enter his body and he felt a warm sensation above his ears. He wanted to meet our group so we introduced him. The SNO team explained further what it meant to repent and follow Jesus. In response he went away to write down some sins to confess to God and to consider what things in his life he should let go of. The following night he met us again to be baptized in the sea, and fully surrender his life to God. He was keen to connect with a local church so we helped him with that. So thankful that we were available to help this guy on his journey!            Alex Atwell / North Ireland

We are so excited to introduce our 4 DTS students; Sarah(USA), Kristina (USA), Felicity (NZ), Elena (RO) - we had another student, but he left because of medical issues. They are such a great bunch of students who are eager to learn more about God and willing to try new things that are out of their comfort zone. We will soon be going on outreach in 2 locations: Romania and Greece. We are so glad that God is not only speaking to us as staff but confirming things through our students as well.

Prayer Request
  • Pray for our outreach locations as we communicate back and forth with our hosts.
  • Finances for both students and staff who are going on outreach.
  • Pray for whatever the Lord lays on your heart for our School.
