We still had a touch of Replacements Fever this week, so it was nice to say goodbye to summer with friends, old and new. Hello three-day weekend!

!!! - Wallop (Warp)
If your idea of the ideal dance party is one that’s held in an old paint thinner warehouse since converted into luxury lofts (open concept, natch), then behold the eighth album by this Brooklyn outfit.

Common - Let Love (Loma Vista/Concord)
The 12th album by this Chicago rapper is based on his memoir “Let Love Have the Last Word.” Common has built a brand on a sort of easy-listening style of hiphop, but his lyrics are intelligent and no doubt the guy has good flow.

Sheryl Crow - Threads (Big Machine)
This popular singer-songwriter says her 11th album is her last, and it’s chock full of guest stars, including Mavis Staples, Neil Young, Jason Isbell, Keith Richards (!), Chuck D (!!) and Stevie Nicks (!!!), among others. There’s even a “duet” with the late, great Johnny Cash. The Tuesday Night Music Club has evolved into a full-on blowout party.

Lana Del Rey - Normal Fucking Rockwell (Interscope)
The title is meant to be a statement on modern America. Fitting, as Del Rey’s music has often melded a classic sensibility with contemporary commentary. Pairs nicely with a sangria when you drop the needle, a double-bourbon by the time you lift it.

Ezra Furman - Twelve Nudes (Bella Union)
Forty years in, punk rock may have lost a lot of its bite. “What are you rebelling against?” “What do you got?” Exactly. But queer punk, well, there’s a lot of anger that sadly still needs to be expressed — and heard. And Ezra Furman has a lot to tell you.

Jesse Malin - Sunset Kids (Wicked Cool)
For his eighth album, this New York rocker works with Lucinda Williams - yes, THE Lucinda Williams. Malin has always been a guy who’s attracted the attention of the music community - he’s friends with Little Steven Van Zandt and Tommy Stinson, for example - but never quite managed to convert that into wider success. If you recently trashed all your Ryan Adams albums, this might serve as a good replacement.

Joan Shelley - Like the River Loves the Sea (No Quarter)
We’ll feature a cut from this album on the pod this week - Thursday, to be exact. The Louisville folk musician’s seventh album has a certain majestic beauty emanating from voice and guitar and not much else.

Tool - Fear Inoculum (Volcano/RCA)
For a non-insignificant number of music fans, this is a special day. The release — finally — of a new Tool album. It’s been 13 years since Maynard James Keenan and mates last assaulted us with their immersive alt-prog-metal. The early reviews suggest that you may need to prepare your mind to be blown again.

Whitney - Forever Turned Around (Secretly Canadian)
And then there’s Whitney, the anti-Tool. This duo practically defines the word “mellow.” But don’t be fooled. The easy grooves and falsetto vocals will draw you in. The pop hooks will keep you in.
