Workshop on eVTOL Defining Challenges for Urban Air Mobility:
Infrastructure, Airspace Management and System Safety

The Vertical Flight Society is hosting a workshop on the "defining challenges" of electric VTOL aircraft, Sept. 10-12, at the US Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C. This three-day workshop is focused on the biggest barriers that need to be solved to realize the potential of eVTOL for urban air mobility (UAM), including what key organizations are working on and looking for any gaps or overlaps in standards developments.

Registration is now open! All registration rates will increase by $50 on August 31. Note: since this is a working meeting, members of the press cannot attend.

There are a limited number of sponsorships available. Go to www.vtol.org/DC for more information.

AeroMobil Announces Technical Services Unit

AeroMobil — the Bratislava, Slovakia-based company with an actual flying car — has expanded its business to offer specialist technical consulting services for VTOL and Urban Air Mobility (UAM) aircraft.

Aeromobil’s Technical Consulting Services division will provide services in three areas: technical advisory, engineering consulting and concept development on offer for existing organisations and new entrants aiming to solve engineering challenges and create safe, certifiable VTOL aircraft. The company plans to make a formal announcement on during the inaugural Global Air Mobility Summit 2019 in Farnborough, UK, on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

In Case You Missed It

ICYMI: key stories from last issue of the eVTOL eNewsletter:

  1. Two dozen of the world’s leading electric aircraft developers and technology experts spoke at the CAFE Foundation 13th Annual Electric Aircraft Symposium (EAS) at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, on July 20-21. The two-day event is now available for free viewing in 26 videos on the VFS YouTube Channel. In addition, we've summarized the key points for each speaker. Some 10 hours of videos and 10,000 words of content are available — check it out!
  2. NEXA Advisors completed a comprehensive year-long study, Urban Air Mobility—Economics and Global Markets. The groundbreaking NEXA report, undertaken in a partnership with VFS, contains forecasts for 74 metropolitan areas over the period of 2020 – 2040. The online databases include thousands of geocoded data features and characteristics of each city, as well as the study’s findings on their potential market for urban air mobility (UAM). Subscription rates are posted and the public can explore the deep city-level analysis available, using New York City as an example, at www.nexa-uam.com.
  3. VFS has partners with the eVTOL Community Forum on Slack. If you are on Slack.com and/or interested in having robust discussions on electric VTOL and Urban Air Mobility, go to www.twitter.com/EvtolC to request account access.

Plan Now to Attend the VFS Transformative Vertical Flight Meeting

The Transformative Vertical Flight 2020 will take place in San Jose, California from Jan. 21-23, 2020. A record number of abstracts were received for what promises to be an action-packed 3-day event! It includes the following meetings:
  • Aeromechanics For Advanced Vertical Flight Technical Meeting: A forum for discussions of emerging aeromechanics challenges and solution methods for future VTOL aircraft. Abstract topics are invited in all areas related to rotorcraft aeromechanics.
  • International Powered Lift Conference (IPLC): The premier event for engineers, technologists and managers to discuss the developments in jet, prop and rotor-powered vertical and/or short takeoff and landing (V/STOL) aircraft research, concepts and programs. IPLC 2020 will focus on three primary areas: advanced rotorcraft, jet-lift concepts and technologies and progress in propulsion applications such as electric VTOL.
  • 7th Annual Electric VTOL Symposium: Invited speakers discussing the latest plans and progress in electric and hybrid-electric VTOL!
