TGIF AND a long weekend!

We're gearing up for auditions at the studio! All audition pieces are provided and prepped during the audition day students attend.  For those who would like additional one-on-one audition coaching,  private voice and acting lessons are available by emailing info@marqueeyouth.org.  Register for shows now and join us at auditions! Also for this season, we are looking for some new interns and directors to direct, music direct choreograph and/or assist with tech! Spots are filling up fast for Under Jekyll's Hyde! Register soon to secure a spot in this small cast play! Welcome HS senior, Devin Flores on his directing debut! 

Under Jekyll's Hyde (Grades 5- 12th)
The laughs roll on with this mystery farce that spoofs Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic, DR.  JEKYLL AND MR.  HYDE.  An outrageous plot and riotous stage action combine to make this jolly entertainment a spoof to remember.  The setting is Jekyll’s laboratory, which doubles for Hyde’s apartment in Mudpie Lane.  "If you're sick, go to Jekyll. You'll never live to regret it!"

Just in, Magic Tree House, Knights at Dawn Kids- a musical for grades K-7! We're excited to have HS senior, Isabelle Heuser (director of Winnie the Pooh Kids) back to direct!  

Magic Tree House: The Knight at Dawn KIDS is an adaptation of the second of Mary Pope Osborne's award-winning fantasy adventure books from the Magic Tree House book series, which has sold more than 100 million copies and is available in more than 100 countries around the world.  This time around, Jack and Annie’s tree house takes them to an age of knights in shining armor, where the two discover the power of hope and the true meaning of gallantry.

The two siblings, Jack and Annie, return to visit the magic tree house.  As they read a book about knights and the middle ages, Annie is intrigued by the Black Knight and the mysterious quest one must successfully complete before becoming a knight.  When she wishes to visit the castle in the book, the siblings are whisked away to medieval times.  They set off to learn more about the Black Knight and his quest, experiencing a grand medieval feast, escaping through secret tunnels and dancing with enchanted suits of armor, all in an effort to find their way back home.

OMIGOD You Guys- it's coming up! We're pleased to welcome Jacqueline Shannon who is making her musical directing debut with Legally Blonde JR! Jacqueline recently directed 15 Reasons Not to Be in a Play and is a graduate of NIU with a BFA in Theatre. Joining us back are Katie Das (choreographer) and Zoe Steele (music director), both seasoned actors and in their last year of high school as well!

LEGALLY BLONDE Jr (Grades 6 and up)  
This fabulously fun award-winning musical based on the iconic movie from 2001, Legally Blonde, and will have you bendin’, snappin’, movin’ and groovin! Elle Woods has hidden genius level intellect, yet is judged based on others perception of her appearance. On this adventure of a lifetime, Elle will stop at nothing- not even Harvard Law School- to break stereotypes, stand up against scandals, and pursue her dreams!

 ACTING TECHNIQUE SERIES 

ACT 1: Acting Fundamentals (Grades K-3) FALL 2019
September 3- October 22nd, 2019; Tuesdays 4:20-5:20 pm 
Price $135  / Grades K-3   


Recommended for new or beginning acting students who want to participate in the next play or musical, Beginning Acting covers the fundamentals of acting through sensory, observation and relaxation exercises and games.  Beginning actors will learn and practice good habits of basic stage movement, blocking, and body work in order to learn to move and act with purpose. This class will provide actors with the groundwork to take the stage with confidence and culminates with a fun mini showcase on the last day of class.

ACT 2: Acting in Performance (Grades 4-8) FALL 2019
September 4- October 23rd, 2019; Wednesdays 4:20-5:20pm 
Price $135  / Grades 4-8  


Recommended for students who are currently in or planning on participating in a play or musical production. This class focuses on meeting the needs of each actor, and working to get to the next level of performing for an audience.  Through learning and application of techniques, we will work on setting each actor’s goals and finding and fixing performance gaps through individualized coaching on techniques and methods for performance. The second half hour will focus on extension of the craft by digging deeper into character work, objectives, relationships, and putting the words to action to develop a scene or monologue that engages the audience into the world of the character. This class concludes with a monologue showcase on the last day of class.

ACT 3: Acting for Life (Grades 8-12) FALL 2019
Theme: Advanced Actor’s Craft Intensive 
September 5- October 24th, 2019; Thursdays 4:20-5:20pm 
Price $135  


Recommended for experienced or serious actors who want to gain a deeper understanding of the craft, this class digs into script analysis and the many layers that make up the world of the play. We’ll delve into character objectives, obstacles, motivations, intentions, subtext, acting theory and application. Students will memorize, rehearse, workshop, and eventually perform a sample a scene or monologue on the last day of class.
