Upper School
College and Career Program
September 2019

College and Career Guidance Lessons

Students will begin receiving college and career planning lessons once a month during their CLIMB time. They will be creating an account through CFNC and will be learning about how to best plan for their career, college, and financial future.

This Month’s Lesson Topics

9th Grade - Making Decisions - Students will understand how the decisions they make during high school can affect post-secondary and employment opportunities. Students will gain skills for making better decisions.

10th Grade - Sophomore Progress Check - Students will learn about goal setting and understand high school graduation requirements to determine if they are on track to graduate.

11th grade - Junior Progress Check - Students will assess where they stand relative to their goals (including course selection and GPA) and learn strategies for finding a college that fits their preferences in terms of location, major, cost, etc. Students will take a virtual tour of some colleges at CFNC.org.

12th Grade - Senior Progress Check - Students will assess where they stand relative to their goals, record important senior year deadlines, and understand the importance of senior grades.

Field Trips

Upper school students in every grade level are given the opportunity to go on a field trip to a North Carolina college. This allows them a chance to be exposed to a college campus, ask admissions counselors questions, and get a better idea of the college options available to them. Below are the general field trips for this year--please be on the lookout for grade level specific emails with details about these opportunities!

Fall: 10th grade to UNCA and 12th grade to UNC Charlotte
Spring: 9th grade to Western Carolina and 11th grade to App State
