Every year, CCOC hosts an annual property tour and you’re invited! We share the inside scoop on our housing and explore the neighbourhoods where our buildings live. This year the CCOC property tour will be by bike! The tour will focus on affordable housing and active transportation in our community. Communities are always changing and we want to explore how CCOC and the City of Ottawa evolve to reflect the needs of all its residents.
Join us on September 28, 2019. The bike ride is approximately 13km long—with lots of stops and snack breaks! We will not ride more than 2km without a break. We will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the northeast corner of Dundonald Park (Somerset and Lyon) and head out at 9:00 a.m. sharp!
On the tour, we will visit a whole variety of CCOC housing—our first redevelopment, small properties, repurposed buildings, even high rises! Adam Hortop, a local transportation planner with the City of Ottawa, will also join the tour. He will highlight how the city’s infrastructure has changed in the past decade to better accommodate transit of all kinds.

Here's some helpful information to help you get in touch with the right person at CCOC. We publish this information each year in the CCOC calendar. Watch for your copy in early December!
Call your Tenant Service Representatives at 613-234-4065 ext. 0 to report any damage in the building or maintenance issues in your apartment. You can also call the Service Desk with questions or concerns about garbage rooms, gardening, or if you are locked out of your apartment. If you're not quite sure who to call, the Service Desk is your first point of contact! They'll be sure to put you in touch with the right CCOC staff member. You can also email info@ccochousing.org or use the online Maintenance Request Form.
Call your Rental Officer if you have questions about moving in or moving out. If you're having problems with a neighbour's noise or guests, please talk to them first. If you cannot sort the problem out together, call your Rental Officer next. If you witness crime in your building or see someone trespassing, first call the Ottawa Police at 613-230-6211. Then place a follow-up call to your Rental Officer so they know what's going on in the building.
Speak to your building Custodian to reserve an elevator for your move, or if you need a locker assignment. Please note that Custodians do not take complaints from tenants, and are not able to let you into your apartment if you forget your key.

The best way to speak with staff is to call or email them directly to book an appointment. Our Tenant Service Representatives at the service desk are unable to book appointments for other staff members. While they’re happy to take your maintenance service requests or your rent payments, they do not have access to other employees’ calendars.
The best way to make sure the person you want to see is in the office is to book an appointment! Booking an appointment with staff means they’re guaranteed to be available when you stop by. Otherwise, they may be busy meeting with another tenant or out at one of our properties.

Call for Resolutions for CCOC's AGM
Do you have an idea about how CCOC could do something differently to make your housing better? Become a CCOC member and send in a resolution that will be voted on by CCOC members at our Annual General Meeting on May 21, 2020.
Resolutions are expressions of opinion or intention that should be about something that applies to all CCOC buildings or tenants. For example, last year CCOC's membership adopted a resolution to review the suitability and availability of bike parking at all properties. Resolutions must be received 60 days before the AGM, they must be in writing, and they must have the name of the CCOC member making the resolution.

All you need to know about bed bugs!
|
|
Bed bugs are becoming more common when living in a multi-unit building. CCOC wants your home to be bed bug-free. We need your help to make that happen! Here is what to look for in your home:
- Bed bugs are small, oval wingless insects. They are often a brown or dark red color.
- Bed bugs can be found in many places around your home including your mattress, wooden furniture, and in the seams of fabric-covered furniture.
Here are some tips to help prevent a bed bug infestation in your home:
- Do not pick up furniture from the street. It is important to be very cautious of any “freebies” you may receive from neighbours, friends, and family. When you bring these things into your home you risk bringing in an item infected with bed bugs.
- Keep your home clean and clutter-free. When your home is neat and tidy it gives bed bugs fewer place to hide. It also makes it easier to spot the bugs.
- Frequent inspections are a great proactive way to reduce the chances of a bed bug infestation in your home. Check your bed and furniture for bed bugs regularly. If you travel, inspect your suitcase for any bugs that may have followed you home!

Help Your Community Get Out to Vote in the Federal Election!
Voting can be scary! You or your neighbours might have questions about voting, and that’s okay. You might be wondering: Where do I vote? What do I need to vote? How does the voting process work?
This year is Canada’s 43rd federal election, and we’re encouraging everyone to vote. Why? Because your voice matters! This year, we have partnered with an organization called Democratic Engagement Exchange and are ready to host a “Vote PopUp” in your lobby. Vote PopUps will walk people through the voting process, answer any questions they may have, and get everyone excited and ready to vote!
A disproportionate number of non-voters are young, racialized, marginalized or a combination of the three. Vote PopUp aims to change this. We are a small team and want to host as many Vote PopUps as possible. We will support you every step of the way to ensure the process is smooth and you feel prepared. Do you care about civic engagement? Do you want more marginalized voices to be out at the polls? Get in touch and host a Vote PopUp in your building!

Super Centretown Garage Sale
The Super Centretown Garage Sale is an annual collection of yard sales. Anyone is welcome to participate! Sellers are asked to donate 10% of their proceeds to the Centretown Community Health Centre.
When: September 7 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
Where: Sales will be happening in the area bounded by Wellington Street in the North, the Rideau Canal in the East, Bronson Ave. in the West, and Catherine Street in the South.

West End Studio Tour
The West End Studio Tour is a informal tour of artist studios located in the west end of Ottawa. This free tour is organized annually by the artists themselves and accessible by walking, biking, or driving. More than 20 artists warmly invite you to experience their latest creations and the unique environments they created them in.
