We are back!

On Monday, August 26, 2019, the ASV main office reopened after the summer break and started to prepare for the upcoming academic year. Please, read some messages regarding the upcoming academic year, including important reminders for families of new students:

New Family Orientation Activities

There will be a New Family Orientation on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at 10:30-13:00 in the Theater for all new parents in Elementary, Middle School and High School. The meeting will be conducted in English by the Director and Principals. Note that all Preschool families have their own orientation on Friday so new families with children in these grades do not need to attend.
The Preschool Orientation (for all families, both new and returning) will take place on Friday, September 6, at 10:00. The event will start at 10:00 with a meeting in the Theater only for parents, while the students are in the classroom with an adult to meet the teacher. Then, at 10:30 all children go to the park with an adult while the other adult attends the presentation and meets the teacher in the classroom. Parents should come with a family member to stay with the child while they attend the meeting and presentation.

First Day of Classes

Classes will start on Monday, September 9, 2019 promptly at 09:30. This and other important dates of the 2019-2020 academic year have been summarized in this document. On a daily basis, you can stay updated throughout the ASV mobile app, which offers daily alerts of upcoming events.

Communications

Starting on September 7, 2019 all of the ASV families will receive the regular edition of ASV Voices, the official newsletter and one of the main communication tools, each week. ASV Voices will be sent to the email address parents provided during the ASV application process. You can change the email address or choose a different language setting by using the link “update your preferences” located below.
Many academic and administrative documents are maintained for extended periods on the specific website known as Parent Resources. Save the link and check regularly the different sections; pages are usually divided into a news feed on the left and a document box on the right.
Stay updated about news and events, as well as have easy access to multiple school documents through the ASV mobile app for iOS or Android devices.

School Materials Needed

ASV provides students with textbooks, reading books and multiple learning materials which are also available in each class or grade level. However, there are some supplies that families must prepare before the school starts according to these lists. Please, follow the appropriate link depending on your child’s grade level:

Preschool and Elementary Classes (Nursery to Grade 5)

We expect that High School students have developed an organizational system that works best for them and that they will come prepared with the materials that they prefer. However, there is a basic list of useful supplies below. Teachers will communicate any other specific material needed for the courses they teach they take on the first day of classes.

Implementation of the New ASV PE Uniform

The new Physical Education (PE) uniform was presented in June 2018 and will be compulsory for all PE lessons as of September 2019. Therefore, students in Elementary School, Middle School, and Grades 9 and 10 are required to attend PE classes dressed in the new school PE uniform when the 2019-2020 academic year begins on Monday, September 9, 2019.

As you may know there is detailed information on the PE uniform on this section of the ASV website. The PE uniform can be purchased online through Svelto, our partner for athletic attire. A new feature this year is the implementation of a new payment method using credit cards. Orders will be delivered to the home address provided within five (5) working days after confirmation. Svuelto will not close during the month of August and are happy to attend to all orders.

ASV+ Registration

As you may know, ASV+ is the official extracurricular activities program at the American School of Valencia. Students may participate in a variety of athletic teams, STEM, dance, music, and world languages as an extracurricular activity.

ASV+ registrations were closed due to the summer holidays but, new students may enroll now throughout a set of specific forms which do not require an ASV Google account (those under the domain @parentasvalencia.org) to log in.
