Milwaukee Racer won World Challenge Class last year at RA, Watkins Glen
ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (Aug. 21, 2019) – Veteran road racer Jeff Courtney of Milwaukee, Wis., returns to his home track this weekend at Road America in search of another race victory when he brings his Maserati Grand Turismo MC sports car to the Ryan Companies Trans-Am Series 100 at the famed four-mile road circuit.
Courtney, the 2018 World Challenge GTSA sprint series class champion, will also compete with No. 99 RecStuff.com/Kenda Maserati GT4 machine in the Pirelli GT4 America Sprint race in the Labor Day weekend at Watkins Glen International.
“We have been trying different brands of GT4 cars throughout 2019 to help with our brand and program decisions for the 2020 season, but I am excited to jump back in our Maserati Grand Turismo for the Trans-Am event at Road America this weekend and the GT4 race at Watkins Glen over the Labor Day races and see if this old Hot Rod is still competitive,” said Courtney. “We had success at both of the tracks last year with class victories and we won our Trans-Am GT class earlier this year at Sebring. So, we’ll have a good time being back in the Maserati.”
Courtney has put in countless laps at both racing facilities during his racing career including several events in the Maserati with regular appearances to the podium. Now the JCR Motorsports machine is prepared for return showings to the track’s winner circle this weekend (Trans-Am) and next weekend (GT4 America).
“The team is fully aware of our weaknesses as the Maserati doesn’t have ABS brakes and many of the electronic goodies of the new GT4 cars,” Jeff explained. “But the Maserati is still a good platform and we will just have to work harder to be in the battle for the podium, we welcome the challenge.”
This weekend’s Trans-Am competition will be the 47th visit to the famed Road America 14-turn facility dating back to 1970.
Courtney begins his Road America action Thursday (August 22) with testing followed by Friday (August 23) practice runs and qualifying. The Ryan Companies Trans-Am Series 100 begins Saturday (August 24) at 11:40 a.m. CDT.
