Update; 29 August 2019

UK Redway Runners trip 2020

We have been talking to Warner Leisure breaks about the possibility of doing a club trip to one of their locations.

We are looking at the three night break starting 19 June or the 26 June 2020 (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), but for this to happen we would need a minimum number to come and enjoy the fun

This would be to the Corton Holiday village which is set on the Suffolk coast, near famous Southwold, Corton has all the easy atmosphere of a holiday home, with the creature comforts Warner is famous for. Built on a chalet theme, the rooms have clapboard design, with fresh pastel interiors, and many have terraces overlooking the sea. Guests can have a snack in the Coffee Lounge or enjoy cabaret in The Boathouse.

You can read more about it at:
https://www.warnerleisurehotels.co.uk/hotels/corton-holiday-village

The price includes accommodation, dinner bed and breakfast for the three nights and it also has activities on site as well from archery, rifle shooting and much more, plus of course evening entertainment:
  • if we go 19 June it would be FESTIVAL - MOTOWN & SOUL Starring Roy G Hemmings and The Dictionary of Soul, Jackson Soul and The Starlights, The Lorraine Crosby Motown Show, Uche Eke, a DJ every night and more
  • If we go 26 June LATE & LIVE Featuring late nights with live bands, party dancing, acoustic sets and leisurely days

Of course would (well should) do some running, so hoping that can organise a club Friday afternoon run, Saturday Lowestoft parkrun is close and Sunday morning can organise another run

For a double room then the cost would be £179 for the weekend per person (this is based on sharing a standard double room) Single rooms are available but with a supplement, which would be about £24 per person THIS IS A BIG DISCOUNT ON THE CURRENT PRICES FOR THESE WEEKENDS

Anyway, to progress this, I am looking for genuine expressions of interest, then when get enough will be asking for deposits so we can get the booking confirmed.

So if interested drop me a mail at rr@redwayrunners.com with dates you prefer (will go with majority preference) then we can take it from there.

Been looking at the details and they do get very good reviews and you get plenty for your money

Please note these are Adult breaks so do not take under 21's or pets

Do you have the 'Need for Speed?'

We are going to be starting our fifth edition of 10-week free course for Redway Runners members from 14 September this is for anyone who wants to get quicker with their 5K time. It is for people who can run 5K now

You should not be training for other events at the same time as tis course to get most from it

The morning of the PB's will be at the Milton Keynes 5K parkrun on Saturday 23 November 2019. This course proved really popular previously and we have three courses, being led by Katie Tucker with Neville Rowles, Mike King with Sarah Lawrence, and Kevin Tilley with Sam Bates for the club.

So if you have the determination & commitment go to the link below for more info and details of how to sign up:
http://www.redwayrunners.com/need-for-speed/

But do not delay as we have a limit of 40 places for each course so 120 places overall.

Let's make Milton Keynes even greener

Police Run 2019

On Bank Holiday Monday, following last year's Prison run for 2019 we had the Police run, hope you all enjoyed the Police/Run it looked great fun and the tribute to PC Harper was wonderful.

The run is based on "as the crow flies" distance - so a straight line - and we had some great distances, and very close teams!

As always, we have a winner...this is the top 3

In first place was Team 3 of Hearts, led by Luke! They made it all the way to Newport Pagnell, a straight line distance of 4.82km, beating last year's winning distance of 4.56km! Well done!

Second and third was very close! Second was Team 9 of Hearts lead by Paul who made it to Willen Road, just past Tongwell, on the way to Newport Pagnell. Distance of 4.47km. Great work.

Third was Team 4 of Hearts led by Tim. They got to Northfield, near Broughton, a distance of 4.42km! Very close, and I'm glad this wasn't for first place as we would need to get the surveying kit out to separate them! It's tempting to call this one a draw!

There were 16 teams and 54 runners by the looks of things! Thanks to our police/security/catcher team too, who managed to expertly slow a few teams down! Hope you all had fun!

PC Andrew Harper

Before we started todays Redway Runners police run form Milton Keynes Police station we got a group photo of those taking part in the virtual challenge, Run to Remember PC 7605 Andrew Harper, the challenge involved people completing a distance of 7.605k today (7605 was Andrews badge number).

Thanks to Kelly for saying a few words about the work her colleagues do

After the photo we had 76 seconds of applause to show Redway Runners respect for Andrew and the police that work on our behalf.

We have another First Aid training nights in September and we still have a couple of spaces if interested get in touch

parkrun

Remember this Saturday 31 August we are going for a BIGGER parkrun at Milton Keynes, so please come along and bring friends, wonder how many we will get?

Also due to another event there is no parkrun at Milton Keynes on Saturday 7 September 2019, chance for a bit of parkrun tourism maybe

There's also fun in the mid-field with 2-5th Redway Runners only separated by 7 minutes. It is looking like the most improved Redway Runners over their 2018 time is going to be Adam who put in a marvelous run yesterday knocking off over 8 minutes on a course that was slightly longer.

LMCC 10k Fun Run

Been asked to let you know about this event
---
I’m organising Long Marston Cricket Club’s first ever 10k fun run on October 20th and I was hopeful that you might be able to share the details and our entry form with members of your running club as we look for more entrants. Our club is based near Tring, and around a 15-minute drive from Aylesbury.

Starting and ending on the outfield at our ground, the 10k route will be a trail/multi terrain course taking in our main ground at Marlins and heading out towards our second ground at Mentmore.
Runners of all ability are encouraged to enter and support our first event, we will also host a 1 mile fancy dress (which is optional) run around our outfield for children and adults that would like a shorter distance to run.
We have ample parking, changing rooms, toilets and will be offering a bag drop, as well as plenty of refreshments after the race and for spectators during the race.
To register for the 10k fun run and the 1 mile family run head over to the link below and complete the form.
Alternatively, if you do not want to run but want to volunteer to be a marshal, or bake a cake for after the race, or if you have any other questions that aren’t featured on our FAQs page email:- lmccfunrun@gmail.com for more info.

Redway Runners Virtual challenge 2019

Codebreaker challenge

This September sees the 80th anniversary of Bletchley Park opening and we thought this would be worth commemorating by making it the basis of our next Redway Runners ‘challenge’

I’m sure most of us know about the codebreaking activity that took place on site which was instrumental in helping the Allies win WW2 - This is your chance to try your hand at cracking codes to earn yourself some fantastic bling!

Now I know you’re all thinking that this sounds a bit difficult but in reality, this is so simple that children will be able to assist…… in fact this is positively encouraged to make it an educational as well as a fun challenge

So what do you have to do?

  • Firstly make your own enigma machine….. don’t worry full instructions will be provided!
  • Enter the challenge to receive your first code to crack
  • Take a photo of yourself at the location that is revealed and send it to us to receive your second code
  • There are 4 in total to solve to earn a fantastic medal and make some money for charity at the same time
  • We will then have a special (optional) run from a secret location where you will be awarded your medal to wear with pride….. and of course, demonstrate to your friends how clever you are

If you fancy getting involved to make some money for our charity and to bring alive a fantastic piece of local history, then sign into your Redway Runners Love Admin account, select 'event' and enter the challenge....

London Funderground

Sunday 6 October 2019 13:00. London
After last year's successful London Funderground Run, we are keen to make this free event bigger and more ridiculous than before. This event is suitable for all abilities.

You will navigate your way across London, taking in underground platforms along the way; total route approx 10-kms. Team points can be gained by completing crazy tasks; just how many people can you fit into a phone box? However, teams will also loose points by being 'intercepted' by other teams of marauders!

Start and finish will be at iconic landmarks easily accessible by train. Registration is very simple, just message tim.miles@talktalk.net

Individuals welcome as teams can be arranged on the day. As last year, we'll finish in a pub.

Will this be another victory for the ladies?

Hope to see many of you in green there.
