Lots of news!

Hoping you all had lovely summers - we've been hard at work over the last few months, with much to tell you in the newsletter below.

We are now a team of 2 - Sophie Hunter, our Programme Manager (3 days per week) has been joined by Naomi Rowland as Administrator (2 days per week) and so event planning is well underway here at Create Sheffield.
There are a few different ways to JOIN US at Create Sheffield:
  1. Sign up as an INDIVIDUAL, and get the newsletter
  2. Arts and Cultural organisations (and individual artists who work in participatory arts and who have all your safeguarding in place) can become a PARTNER organisation and have the opportunity to join and participate in training events, receive information and news, be part of city-wide event planning.  The first event for Partners is 3rd October, 12 - 2pm.  Find out more by registering your interest.
  3. If you are a school, and have taken up the Learn Sheffield subscription, then you are already a SUBSCRIBER organisation. Look out for information in Learn Sheffield Opportunities Bulletins. As an individual teacher you can sign up for the newsletter, above. If your school isn't registered with Learn Sheffield's subscription, get in touch with us.
  4. If your school already has arts and creativity at its core, then you might be interested to become one of our CHAMPION SCHOOLS (see below). Get in touch to register your interest.
What we do:

Create Sheffield is the name of the Cultural Education Partnership for Sheffield. It’s a new company that has guaranteed funding until March 2022 to begin to change the way that children and young people engage with arts, culture and education in the city.  The company's work is aimed at schools and teachers, arts and cultural organisations, parents and carers, youth and community workers as well as children and young people themselves.

The company exists to celebrate and shout about the fantastic work happening across the city, and to help to ensure that ALL children and young people aged 0-24 genuinely have the opportunity to experience and participate in high quality arts and culture.  Create Sheffield will connect schools, colleges and universities with the arts, culture and heritage sectors in the city.  Our role is to help schools, parents and carers to find out what is on offer, and to ensure there is joined up thinking by the arts and culture sector.
Become a Create Sheffield Partner
All arts, culture and heritage organisations who work with children and young people across Sheffield are invited to join us and become a Create Sheffield Partner.

Why would I want to?
  • Get the chance to influence and be part of shared programming for children and young people across Sheffield.
  • Opportunities to share and celebrate the work you do - in person, in this newsletter, on the website, via social media.
  • Have the opportunity to meet other creatives and educators from a broad range of sectors who produce work for children and young people.
  • Access to training and information.
What do you need from me?
  • A commitment to the safeguarding and well-being of children and young people.
  • Share information with us about what you do and who you work with, so that we can map what is happening in the city - and what isn't.
  • Attend meetings, join in, be part of changing things in the city!
  • No money at present - we have funding until March 2022.

We plan to hold a similar planning event in w/c 28th January, and w/c 18th May 2020 when we will be focused on planning for 2021 and beyond!

Spread the Word
As you're reading this newsletter, you may have signed up to our mailing list. If not, please do so here. Please also forward this around to your colleagues, so that we can update as many people as possible!

Now that most of the official business set up is out of the way, we are looking forward to being much more event focused, as you will read below. We plan to send out regular newsletters, generally 4 weeks before each half term with events and important information about what's happening in Sheffield.

We're also present on social media - find and follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Youtube!
Schools & CPD
Champion Schools
We are developing a network of schools that have the arts and creativity at their core. These schools are doing amazing things with their students, and we want to shout about the work they do! We are hoping to find a Cultural Education Champion in each locality in the city. There will be more to come in further newsletters, but if you think your school has these attributes, get in touch with us

Primary Subject Network meetings
We will be facilitating these meetings as twilights, held in the city centre.
Dates for 2019/2020 are below:
Autumn- 28th November 2019
Spring- 16th March 2020
Summer- 24th June 2020
Sign up is through Learn Sheffield.

Secondary Subject Network meetings
Planning for these are in development, and we'd love to have the feedback of as many educators as possible. We are looking at the options of having separate art/music/drama sessions, or should they be combined? Should we be including Design & Technology as well? Do you know of something similar that's happening already? Get in touch

Creative Teach-meet Dates
Join this informal networking event for BOTH teachers and arts & cultural organisations to make new connections and learn best practice via short talks & skill shares:
Spring- w/c 3rd February
Summer- w/c 1st June

Learn Sheffield & Sheffield Music Hub
We are delighted to report that Create Sheffield has been included in Learn Sheffield's Subscription offer. As a result of this, and the connection we already have with Sheffield's Music Hub, we have guaranteed connection with all schools and colleges in the city.

Do you have any school or CPD events you think people should know about? Please contact us with the information for consideration in our next newsletter (deadline Friday September 20th).

Case Studies
Part of Create Sheffield's role is to celebrate and shout about some of the amazing programmes and events across the city for young people (0-24), and the adults that work with them.
Have you run an amazing arts or cultural education programme? Has your school completed a project you're particularly proud of? We'd love you to write to us with a bit about what you've done- please send it across to us!
Get Involved
There are many ways to get involved, through events, venues, and exhibitions around the city this Autumn. This section will be developing over time, as we want to find out about and share events for young people (0-24), and the adults that work with them. If you know of any exhibitions, events, CPD opportunities- anything around the city, please get in touch.

We will be sending out the next newsletter in early October, so the deadline for consideration is Friday 20th September. Contact Naomi to contribute.
