Practicing in Rural Areas May Reduce Burnout, Study Finds.  A small pilot study published in the July issue of South Dakota Medicine has found that FPs who practice in rural areas have significantly lower burnout rates than those who practice in medium-sized or larger metropolitan areas and suggested that some aspects of rural practice may confer a protective effect against burnout. Medicaid Changes Allow KY Schools to Expand Behavioral Health Services. Local school districts will soon be able to hire more licensed psychologists, counselors and other behavioral health professionals, thanks to upcoming Medicaid changes that will allow schools to use federal dollars. Read More 
HIV Infection “Clusters” Put Focus On Harm Reduction Programs. Health officials in Huntington, West Virginia, say a cluster of HIV infections has grown to 71 confirmed cases. That’s in a city that usually sees about eight HIV infections in a year. As with an earlier such cluster in northern Kentucky, officials say the primary cause of infection is needle drug use. CHFS unveils new health information exchange. The Kentucky Health Information Exchange (KHIE) has moved to a new platform with enhanced functionality and features for health providers across the Commonwealth. The updated system was unveiled at the 2019 eHealth Summit in Lexington. KHIE is administered by the Division of Health Information, within the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. Read More 
Proposal Would Cap Insulin Cost in Kentucky. In Kentucky 567,000 residents, or just over 15 percent of the state’s adult population, have diabetes, Dougherty said. Of those, an estimated 108,000 have diabetes but don’t know it. Another 1.16 million, or 35 percent of the adult population, have prediabetes. Read More
