We JUST sent out our newsletters yesterday - it should be in your mailbox today - but things are moving so fast right now, there are already a few more things to tell you about!

This Weekend at First Lutheran

Liturgists, Let's Practice! – We are going back to a sung liturgy in our traditional services, so Marita is holding a practice session for the liturgists (worship assistants who sing the liturgy) this Sunday at 10:15 a.m. in the Choir Room.
This Weekend: Coffee & Questions with the Building Committee
We would love to answer questions and show some pictures of the plans and progress! The building committee will have a time for coffee and questions this Sunday, August 25 in the Chapel, both at 9 and 10:15 a.m.
Add a Note of Blessing to our Nave – You have the opportunity to write prayers and blessings for the congregation which will be placed in a special container and added to the center junction of the main rafter beams in the ceiling of the Nave. If you would like to add a scripture verse, prayer or blessing, special archival-quality pens and paper are available this morning. You can also stop by our church office later in the week to write a message.
This Weekend in Worship

Preaching: Pastor Steve Knudson
Sermon: "Everything Changes ... Everything Stays the Same”
These prophets speak in the years around the rebuilding of the temple, to encourage them to begin the task, to see it through, and to be faithful to God in a new time. The returning exiles are confronted with expectations not met. The temple does not look as grand as before. The work of rebuilding is hard. All of this raises issues of an identity crisis in the face of change and expectations not met: Are we still God’s people?

Scripture: Haggai 2:2-5Zechariah 7:9-10, 8:3-6Malachi 3:1-7a NIV

Blessing of the Backpacks – Before you start back to school, bring your bags to worship for a special Blessing of the Backpacks on the weekend of August 24-25 at the 5 p.m., Saturday or 9 or 11:15 a.m. Sunday worship services.

Coming Soon!

It's not too Late to Renew Your Faith Together...
Renovaré (meaning “to renew” or “to restore”) groups help people grow deeper in their faith together; and they start meeting again soon - the week of Sept. 9. These groups will be digging in to Barbara Taylor Brown’s book, Holy Envy: Finding God in the Faith of Others. This is not just an academic study of other world religions – Taylor explores what is opened and what is revealed when we accept the invitation to investigate all the wonders before us. This study helps us discover the spiritual riches God can teach us from the faith of others.

Four groups offered at various times throughout the week provide lots of opportunities to find a group that works in your schedule. Want to know more? Visit firstlutherancr.org/renovare for details and to sign up.

Choirs are Starting Next Week!
We have nine different Vocal and Handbell Choirs here at First Lutheran, and they all start rehearsals this coming week. The groups rotate in contributing to our worship services through the fall, winter and spring. All you need to do to join a group is show up to rehearsal – all are welcome. Each group with their rehearsal times and age ranges can be found on the music page of our website.
