Kathryn Hurren writes:
New Zealand Archaeology Week 2020 will run from 24 April to 3 May.
This will be the fourth New Zealand Archaeology Week. The event has been able to develop and grow due to the wonderful effort and input from the archaeological community, heritage
organisations and tangata whenua. In addition, I would like to thank everyone who took time to
provide feedback on the 2019 event. The feedback that has been provided to me will be very useful in organising future Archaeology Week events.
The basic objective of New Zealand Archaeology Week is to increase public awareness of
archaeology in New Zealand. Archaeology Week promotes the work of New Zealand archaeologists both at home and abroad as well as promoting the importance of protecting our archaeological heritage. The types of events that would be appropriate for New Zealand Archaeological Week could include a special exhibition at a museum, public talks on archaeological work in New Zealand or abroad, historic walks promoting the archaeology of a town, archaeological site visits and/or visits to an excavation. If you’re looking for inspiration, check out the previous events on the NZAA website. The NZAA has funding available to assist organisations with the costs associated with running Archaeology Week events, such as printing costs, venue hire, etc. If you would like a little bit of extra help with your event’s then please email the secretary@nzarchaeology.org . The NZAA will review each request on a case-by-case basis.
The website for New Zealand Archaeology Week 2020 will be set up shortly. Once online you will be able to see what is happening in your area as events are added.
Area Coordinators are being formalised now. Presently I have coordinators for Wellington, Thames- Coromandel and the Hawke’s Bay. I am seeking coordinators for Christchurch, Auckland and Dunedin. In addition, it would be good to have coordinators in the top of the South Island, Waikato and Southland in order to help facilitate and help the even grow in these areas.
Please contact me at archaeologyweek@nzarchaeology.org for more information or to discuss
possible events and/or interest in New Zealand Archaeological Week 2020.
Nga mihi

Contributions are welcome - email the editor glawnz@gmail.com
You will see from the style the eNews consists largely of links.
Our preferred form is  a few lines at most, with a link or an email contact for further information.
At a pinch we may self-host longer documents to link in the eNews, but they must be submitted as pdf or word documents as attachments to emails. They need some processing so there may be a delay in their being used.
If you are running a conference we will usually run a link once only - and if you don't have a website for it yet, then tell us when you have.
Relevant job advertisements are welcome - there is no charge.
