An Announcement from
the New Zealand Society of Authors (PEN NZ Inc) Te Puni Kaituhi O Aotearoa

Statement to the members:
August 23, 2019

John Cranna, elected President of the NZ Society of Authors at its AGM in Dunedin on 15 June 2019, has stepped down from the Presidency.

Vice-President Philippa Werry has been appointed Acting President of NZSA. The Board is meeting later this month to establish a timeline for filling this role for the remainder of the term of office.

John’s commitments as director of the Creative Hub Writing Centre have meant that he felt he did not have the time or resources required to devote to the position and the ongoing challenges that the Society faces.

John says: “The Society has done tremendous work representing authors and their professional interests in recent years, and I will continue to support its efforts in any way I can.”

Philippa Werry says that the Board is sorry to lose John, but is confident that the Society is in good heart, and will continue to support and advocate for its members and the literary sector.
