Funded PhD position in Germline Stem Cell Development

A full-time, funded 3-year PhD position is available in germline stem cell biology at Biomedicine Discovery Institute, Monash University. Monash University is in the top 1% of universities in the world. The Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (BDI) is a leading research institute in Australia. The scholarship provides an opportunity to undertake a PhD, working with Dr. Sandeep Gopal and A/Prof. Roger Pocock (https://www.monash.edu/discovery-institute/pocock-lab). The project will study the role of cell-extracellular matrix interactions in germline stem cell development by using both Caenorhabditis elegans and mammalian models. The project will make use state-of-the-art techniques and equipment established in the lab to answer fundamental questions in stem cell development. The project involves extensive use of genetics, biochemistry, CRISPR-Cas9 genome engineering and confocal microscopy. Applicants should hold a first class BSc (Hons) or MSc (Research) in Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related field. Experience in confocal microscopy would be an advantage.

A tax-exempt PhD stipend of AUD 27,353 per annum, will be provided for three years. The successful PhD candidate will receive mentoring to enrol in a PhD at Monash and will have access to appropriate coursework. The candidate will also have the opportunities to attend national and international conferences and professional development activities.
