Facebook's News Page Index training: Why and How to Register Your Page

Register today for Facebook's Sept. 10 webinar, during which a platform expert will walk outlets through setting up their news Page index. The news Page index is a foundational step to help Facebook identify pages that primarily publish news content on the platform. Any Facebook Page that primarily creates journalism should be registered as a news Page on Facebook. Registered Pages may be eligible for products and services specifically designed for news publishers.

Calling for (early) submissions: Best of Nonprofit News 2019

Each year, INN asks each member to provide one example of your newsroom producing outstanding public service journalism, telling a story that would have gone untold if not for your efforts. Please help by submitting your best work NOW or as soon as it is published. Submissions received by next Friday, Sept. 6 may be chosen for special promotion during NewsMatch. We will be updating the collection through the end of the year. We can add or substitute a few submissions as late as Jan. 5, 2020, but we don't have to tell you what it's like when last-minute content pours in on deadline. Here's last year's roundup for inspiration — covering issues ranging from justice reform to climate change.

Set your organization up for NewsMatch success

Everyone is gearing up for the largest grassroots fundraising campaign for news, NewsMatch! Since 2016, NewsMatch has helped nonprofit newsrooms raise more than $15.8 million — $7.6 million of which was raised in 2018. For those interested in supporting local or national fundraising, sign up for email updates and contact Democracy Fund's Josh Stearns or Miami Foundation's Lindsey Linzer

More than 195 INN members are participating this year! For first time participants, catch up on training webinars to learn how to get established. For returning members, learn what's new this year. And, if your organization is not already getting emails from NewsMatch, sign up here

From our friends outside of INN:

Participate in research about trust in communities

A researcher from the University of Wisconsin wants to hear from reporters and editors in small, mid-sized or metro/regional/state US-based newsrooms to talk about different ways to build trust in communities.

There are two ways to participate:
  1. Fill out a 30-min survey for a $20 Amazon gift card.
  2. Sign up for a focus group at the Online News Association conference in New Orleans on Friday, Sept. 13 (8 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.) or at the Newspaper Press Association conference in Milwaukee on Friday. Oct. 4 (TBD). These would be 90-minute sessions for a $50 gift card.

Learn more at the project's website or email Sue Robinson at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with your name and news organization at robinson4@wisc.edu.
