Buffers Work!

See filter strips “in action." Photos show the benefit of having streamside vegetation in place. In this case, the Nebraska Buffer Strip Program was used to implement filter strips nearly 20 years ago.

NDA at Husker Harvest Days


Stop in and say ‘Hey’ at Husker Harvest Days! Several NDA programs will be featured at Husker Harvest Days again this year:
  • Entomology/Plant health—Entomology program staff will be in the Nebraska Association of Natural Resources Districts building (lot 39E, southeast side);
  • Pesticide/Fertilizer management—NDA staff from the Pesticide/Fertilizer program will be in the Nebraska Farmer Hospitality Tent (at the corner of Main Street and Central Avenue);
  • Noxious weed control—Staff from NDA’s Noxious Weed program will be at the Nebraska Weed Control Association Tent (lot 116, northeast part of the grounds);
  • Negotiations (farmer mediation) and NextGen Beginning Farmer programs—Look for NDA staff in the Nebraska Farmer Hospitality Tent located at Main and Central; and
  • International Trade team members will be at the International Visitors Center (lot 34, north of the Hospitality Tent, at the northeast corner of Main Street and Central Avenue.)
  • Animal health—NDA’s Animal Health Protection programs will be represented in the Livestock Industries Building in the northwest corner;

Fungicide Impacts on Pollinators

Fungicide Impacts on Pollinators is a new fact sheet from the Xerces Society which raises concern, based on scientific studies, about the potential risks to pollinators from the use of certain fungicides, and offers solutions such as preventive pest management, limiting the potential for pollinator exposure and increasing pollinator habitat.
The August 2019 Forest Health Report newsletter from the Nebraska Forest Service features articles on biological control for emerald ash borer, Japanese beetle options, and an update on sudden oak death, among others.

The National Pesticide Information Center has updated information on Daycare & School Poison Safety concerning antimicrobials, including a classroom checklist and several infographics.
