Meet our new teachers!

REMINDER: Join us after drop off tomorrow (1st Day, 8/26) to celebrate at our 1st Day Coffee at A Second Cup across the street on 11th Street!

We are excited to welcome 6 new teachers to Hogg this year. See below to connect their name with a face and learn a bit more about them!
We'd also love for you to j
oin your Hogg PTA, if you haven't already! (See who has already joined us!)

Bianca Butron

Ms. Butron is teaching 7th grade ELA this year and comes to us from a radio station, where she has worked the last two years. I'm sure our students will love hearing some of Ms. Butron's stories about her radio days. Ms. Butron student taught at Langham Creek Middle School and was also previously a 911 operator. Ms. Butron is excited to get to know her students and share her love of reading and writing with them.  Welcome, Ms. Butron!

Leticia Graf

Ms. Graf is a new 7th grade ELA teacher and has an exciting career of teaching English at an international school in China, high school students in North Carolina, and most recently, English students at Sharpstown High School.  Ms. Graf loves teaching and hopes to also bring her love of yoga and choreography to Hogg MS this year (um, Ms. Graf, are parents welcome to join in?!).  Ms. Graf is a Heights local and is excited about working with middle school kids this year.  A warm Heights and Razorback welcome to Ms. Graf!

Laurecia Jones

We welcome new 7th grade math teacher, Ms. Jones, to Hogg. Ms. Jones is in her third year of teaching.  Even though Ms. Jones previously lived in Dallas, Houston is home to Ms. Jones and she is happy to be closer to her family now.  Ms. Jones graduated from UTSA with a degree in Public Health because she wanted to be a nurse.  Fortunately for us, Ms. Jones decided to become a teacher and we are lucky to have her teaching our students.  Ms. Jones is most excited about learning the IB program and incorporating community service into her subject content, and of course, getting to know her students!  Welcome, Ms. Jones!

Marisa Pierson

We welcome Ms. Pierson, a new 8th grade math teacher at Hogg this year.  Ms. Pierson recently taught 8th grade math at Marshall Middle School and worked in oil and gas prior to teaching. Although originally from Michigan, Ms. Pierson has lived in Houston for the last 6 years and in the Heights for the last 3 years.  A fun fact about Ms. Pierson: she used to be a mixed martial arts instructor.  We wonder if she can show Master Cardenas some new moves?  ;-)  Ms. Pierson is excited to join the staff at Hogg MS and teach the neighborhood kids.  We are excited to have you, Ms. Pierson.  Welcome!

Mildred Tate

Welcome Ms. Tate, our new 8th grade ELA teacher!  Ms. Tate brings with her 16 years of experience teaching English in higher education and 4 years teaching English at Scarborough High School.  Wow!  We are excited to learn everything Ms. Tate has to offer our students this year.  Ms. Tate is excited to join the Hogg  faculty, meet her new students, and get to know the community. The Razorback community is happy the stars aligned to bring Ms. Tate to Hogg MS, and we hope she has an excellent year!

Ashlyn Thornton

Welcome Ms. Thornton, our new 6th grade math teacher at Hogg this year!  Ms. Thornton is in her 6th year teaching and 4th year teaching in middle school.  Ms. Thornton has always taught math (she must really like it!).  Most recently, Ms. Thornton taught in Humble but decided to move to Hogg MS because she wanted to be a part of a larger school district with more opportunities.  Even though Ms. Thornton has never taught in an IB school, she is excited to learn about the IB program and incorporate it into her teaching.  Fun fact about Ms. Thornton: she has been teaching in school consistently since she was 16 years old.  Amazing!  We can't wait to see Ms. Thornton's math skills! Welcome to Hogg!

The Heights Neighborhood Association's 14th Annual Bike Rally & Scavenger is coming up on October 5th. If your family is joining the super-fun rally that morning (before grown-ups leave that evening for Hogg-toberfest), be sure to mention Hogg Middle School in your registration. The school with the most registrants will win $500 from the association! Click the image for more information.
