Our Welcome Crew: John and Meg Glass

Our friends John and Meg Glass (missionaries in France and Switzerland) met us at the airport in Geneva and took great care of us for the first few days. We all miss them already. Clara recently said, "I miss that nice lady."
We were quickly introduced to yummy French food with a crepe party!
We walked through the beautiful hills of Archamps, France that overlooked the city of Geneva, Switzerland.

A Note from David

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, we cannot fully express our deep gratitude to you for praying for us during our transition to life in a new country. We have been working on getting setup in Albertville and so I've been going to different parts of town each day working on a new task. I have had to setup new phone accounts, an internet account, register the kids for school, register and insure our car, re-learn to drive stick after about 20 years, learn French road rules, learn to find the proper food and supplies in French stores, visit a local French doctor, get French library cards, and much more. Though adapting to a land where so much is different than where we came from can be challenging, we have continually seen God's grace and strong support in it all. As an example, one of the existing students at our language school, Jonathan Archer, has been extremely helpful. He has shown us many stores and helped us do almost all of the tasks above. Thank you again for your prayers and supportGod has richly provided for us.

A Note from Ashley

"The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped..." Psalm 28:7
I am in awe every day that we are actually in France! Our last few months in Los Angeles were a blur of logistics, packing, tears, hugs, sadness, and excitement. We had an incredibly special time with our family and friends in Tucson (and 6 weeks of language class), but now it is absolutely surreal that we are actually here. We have had a lot of transition since the beginning of the summer, but God has given us so much grace through it all.

We have had fun trying new things, new foods, and learning French culture as a family
it's all been part of the adventure. The girls are doing really well so far, but we know that school will be a whole new challenge for them. Every day as I look at the beauty surrounding us, I am reminded of the unimaginable majesty of our God. Since living in a new country I suddenly can't perform normal, everyday tasks anymore. I feel a bit like a child learning all over again how to communicate, comprehend basic things, grocery shop, use a washing machine, cook, and (soon) drive again! We learn something new every day. It is a very humbling experience. The French people have been very kind and sometimes smile with a look that says, "that's cute...nice try" when I speak French to them. Thank you for praying for us, encouraging us, and supporting us. We know that this year is going to be a huge challenge and learning French will not be easy, but we take courage knowing that we have you lifting us up in prayer before our God.
Merci Beaucoup!
Ashley Ellingson

Praise Report:

  • Praise God for our safe arrival in France, that our luggage all arrived, and for the Glasses taking care of us the first few days.
  • Praise God for the believers who have taken much of their time to help us settle into life in a new city in a foreign country.
  • Praise God for the beauty of His creation in the French Alps (we can't get over it!)
  • Praise God that we have had some time to adjust, learn, enjoy time as a family, and take care of logistics before classes begin.
  • Praise God that everyone has been healthy and enjoying this transition.

Prayer Requests:

  • Pray for us to guard and prioritize our time in prayer and in the Word as we grow increasingly busy. Pray that we will prioritize devotions as a family and figure out our new "normal" with all of us being in school.
  • Pray for our girls as they start elementary school on September 2 (all in French). Pray for good teachers, new friends, for their well-being, and God's comfort and peace in their hearts. This will be a huge adjustment for them, especially being their first time attending a public school. Clara especially has a hard time being away from mommy and daddy, so please pray for her.
  • Pray for Ashley and David as we begin intensive French language classes and as we adjust to a rigorous schedule of study, as well as learning how to live in France.
  • Pray for our teammates, Faly and Lily Ravoahangy and their family, as they transition back to Madagascar after spending the summer sharing the ministry with churches in the USA.
