You may have noticed that the annual John Nicholls Memorial Golf Day and Dinner have not been held this year. You had wondered what to wear, and you had anticipated a new pair of Argyle socks which you were going to have to buy because your kid used the last pair for cleaning the car.

But you will have missed the day out on the scenic course of the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club. You will also have missed the frustration of playing your best hole of the day only to have it all go for naught because of the ’texas scramble'  system, which ensures your score doesn’t reflect your golfing skill.

You will remember a great dinner, with good friends, and that wonderful Merlot. You will remember the fog of indecision that overcame you as you surveyed the variety of items on the ‘silent auction’ table. And you vaguely remember the sheer exhilaration of the live auction, but you can’t remember what it was you bid on.

But you do remember that Lynda Kearns described the incredible work she has been doing for the past eighteen years in Tanzania, where OUR Vijaliwa Vingi project for the care of children in dangerous circumstances is still growing.
And you may have just been reading about some of the amazing things that Lynda has accomplished this year.
And, if you follow where this is going, you will be wondering what CanaDares, Our  Canadian registered charity, is doing this year to raise money for the project.

Well, here’s the answer; CanaDares announces:

The John Nicholls Memorial Imaginary Golf Tournament and Virtual Dinner
Saturday, August 31, 2019

Just a minute, you say to yourself. You mean CanaDares is announcing a non-event?

Yes, that’s right! It’s the same fundraiser that CanaDares usually holds, just that it isn’t happening in the flesh, on the green or in the rough.

 Think of the advantages:
- it doesn’t take up much of your time;
- you don’t have to worry about the ferries;
- it doesn’t matter if it rains;
- you’re in no danger of getting stuck in the rough
- it doesn’t even matter even if you can’t play golf
- there’s no embarrassment on the putting green
- you don’t have to share the Merlot
- the silent auction is even more silent
- your contribution to said very silent auction is easier than ever
- you won’t make a fool of yourself at the live auction
- you don’t have to buy a pair of Argyle socks

And those of you who wish to sponsor an imaginary hole (with a much larger sign than previously offered) (at $1000 only) will be specially acknowledged in an independent newsletter.

Lynda won’t be back until the middle of September, and she will have an opportunity, a little later in the fall, to report to you on this year’s exciting developments, adventures, and accomplishments. Please see our attached newsletter to catch up with Vjaliwa Vingi and CanaDares.

All you have to do now is donate the money you save by participating in this non-event:
- the cost of the round of golf
- the cost of the dinners for yourself and your plus one
- the cost of the Merlot(s)
- the ferry fare, if you are on the other side of Howe Sound
- your bids on the silent auction
- your bids on the live auction
- and, of course, the cost of the Argyle socks.

Please add it all up, and send a cheque to:
CanaDares Society
#702 - 3633 Mt. Seymour Pkwy.
North Vancouver, BC V7H 0A9

(Or, if you like, we can arrange a regular deduction from your bank account. Just let us know.)

By the way, since CanaDares is a Registered Charity, you’ll get a tax receipt this year for the entire amount.
