MAC in a Moment

August 28, 2019
Seventeen graduates of the first-ever MAC Assessment Literacy Institute, held in August 2019, will begin the school year with new knowledge about assessment and ready access to MAC’s extensive set of assessment resources. Here are some great ones to consider this fall!

MAC Learning Module: Collaborative Inquiry

Professional learning designs that rely on teachers to lead their own development— in union with colleagues, while practicing their craft—place a high value on educators. Collaborative inquiry is a professional learning design that makes teachers action-researchers, relying on colleagues and their innate curiosity about what students know and how to cause and support learning.

MAC’s newest online learning module, hosted by Michigan Virtual (MV) and authored by Learning Forward Michigan, explores collaborative inquiry—a powerful means for engaging educators in learning that leads to permanent changes in practice. Collaborative inquiry also stimulates curiosity and innovation, which positively affects the learning of all students. The use of collaborative inquiry best supports the innovation and implementation process teachers need to use as they seek to improve their own instructional and assessment practices.

MAC Reads!
We are hosting a real-time webinar with Jim Popham! In his book Assessment Literacy for Educators in a Hurry!, Popham explains that educators who understand six fundamental concepts are well-equipped to make good use of assessment to both certify and support student learning.

This Learning Moment video clip features Jim Popham explaining what he means by assessment literacy.

Register to join us September 26, 2019 from 4-5 p.m.

Whole Child Award
Through our ongoing partnership with Michigan ASCD, MAC is a contributing sponsor to The Whole Child Award 2019-20. This award seeks to identify schools in Michigan that have created a school culture with programs that exemplify one of the five tenets of this initiative: Healthy, Safe, Supported, Challenged, or Engaged.

If you know of a Michigan school that is doing credible work around the Whole Child, please encourage them to apply. The awardee will receive recognition, one complimentary registration for MEMSPA's Annual Conference in December 2019, and a $2,500 grant, given for the purpose of implementing goals related to one of the tenets of the Whole Child Initiative. Don't delay! Applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM on September 13, 2019.
