Do you have a story....

Dear friends,

Do you have a story that brings hope?

I thought about this question when I heard it recently and it reminded me of our mission of Pure. Our purpose is to equip young people to have hope for the best possible future. We don’t tell them what to do or how to do it. We instill hope.

How we do this is by educating them with facts and data and sharing stories, both positive and negative, as learning opportunities. Sometimes those stories come from our own volunteer instructors and other times from videos or stories of friends.

The way they are shared doesn’t matter, it’s the power that they are shared. The all offer hope to the students. We want students to be informed to make healthy decisions rather than being blindsided and later have regrets because they didn’t know. Many of you know that I spent eight years mentoring young ladies and couples in a pregnancy resource center who told me they didn’t know; they didn’t know they could make another choice. This was where my passion grew. Right there in that office I saw so many young people lose hope of their goals and dreams because no one had shared a story with them.

We all have stories in our lives that can be used to share hope and shape futures. What’s your story, and are you using it to impact others? Whether your story aligns with Pure’s mission or another group’s, you have opportunity to share hope with someone.

We now have programs on Abuse Prevention, Puberty, and Discipleship as well as our original Sexual Risk Avoidance Program. If you’d like to be a part of any of these programs give me a call and we can see where you might join us in our mission.

Without hope our young people will not flourish. We need to invest in their lives and give them the best future possible.

Be blessed,

Shari McCutcheon
Director, Pure Education

What You Need to Know About Bullying

Bullying may seem insignificant compared to kids bringing guns to school or getting involved with sex, drugs, and alcohol at exponentially younger ages. Bullying is often dismissed as part of growing up. But it’s actually a precursor to aggressive, violent behavior. Statistics show that one in four children who bully will have a criminal record before the age of 30.

Jeffersonville Library

We are hosting a FREE workshop open to the community, most specifically for parents and educators to learn more about protecting our children.

Comfort House Child Advocacy Center of Harrison County, along with Harrison County Sheriff's Department and the Indiana State Police will be conducting this workshop for anyone interested in learning more.

Topics covered include:
  • Extent of the problem - who the offenders are and why they molest children.
  • Common seduction, manipulation and "grooming" tactics used by offenders.
  • Talking to children about abuse and people with "secret touching problems."
  • Practical child and family "rules" for safety.
  • Responding to child sexual abuse disclosures and reporting child abuse.
Registration is required as seating is limited. Children and teens will not be permitted to attend as the workshop does incorporate videotaped interviews with convicted sex offenders and graphic discussions.

To reserve your spot, contact Sandy Sorrells at Development@connect2pure.com or register at Eventbrite using this link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/protecting-your-children-advice-from-child-molesters-tickets-70659930755
