"Let Light and Truth Lead you back to God"

Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill
and to your dwelling! Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy, and I will praise you with the lyre, O God, my God.

Psalm 43:3-4 ESV

In the midst of life's difficulties and dark moments, our thoughts and emotions can often deceive us. They can lie to us and manipulate our perspective and responses to our present circumstances.

That's why, when he was at one of his lowest points struggling with fear on the inside and conflict on the outside, the writer of Psalm 43 asked God to send His light and truth to lead him.

He longed to encounter God again. He thirsted for God's healing and life-giving presence. Yet he knew that his heart and mind were too wounded and discouraged to take him there on their own. He needed something real, something true, something eternal to cut through the discouragement and disillusionment of the moment in order to allow him to rest and rejoice in the greatness of God again.

The same is true for us. Our emotions and thoughts are easily manipulated by our circumstances, our conversations with others, our own assumptions, and even our own fatigue. Left to our own devices, we won't move towards faith but fear. We won't embrace hope but despair. That's why we needs God's light (instead of the world's darkness) and His truth (instead of our the world's lies) to lead us, to guide us, and to bring us into His presence.

God is good. He is always worthy of our worship and praise. But our circumstances won't always tell us that, and our thoughts and emotions won't always affirm that. So stop leaning on your own perspective today and lean into the unchanging, eternal promises and truths of God's Word. They will take you to a place of hope, peace, and renewal that transcends your present experience.
