This Week's Sermon

This week we will begin a new series called The Church in the World with a sermon from Erik on Matthew 5:13.

(Listen to sermons our website or subscribe on iTunes.)

Happening This Week

  • Wednesday Morning Prayer: On the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month we meet at 6:30am in the church office to pray (and on 5th Wednesdays we take a prayer walk around the neighborhood). Please join us tomorrow morning!

Coming Up Soon

  • Welcome Back Sunday: Please mark your calendars for our annual Welcome Back Sunday—this year it will be immediately after our service on Sunday, September 8th. We'll meet in the Fellowship Hall to share a meal and spend time with old friends and new. Bring a dish to share! We'll be sending out a sign-up sheet for those who want to volunteer later this week!
  • Middle School Weekend: City Church of Richmond's Fall Middle School weekend will be September 6th through 8th. Middle School Weekend takes place at Young Life's Rockbridge Camp in Goshen, Virginia. We join with other churches from around the state to have fun building friendships and learning about God through times of worship, talks, small group discussion, and free time at the camp. Over the weekend the kids will have a chance to do all the activities that Rockbridge has to offer: zip line, ropes course, lake, pool, sports, and more. Registration is $150 and includes lodging and on-site meals for the weekend.  Fill out the registration form here, and contact Jim (jim@citychurchrva.com) with questions.
  • Women's Bible Studies: Our Fall Women's Bible Studies will kick off the week of September 9th! We will have two studies meeting this fall: one on Monday evenings and one on Wednesday mornings. Please head over to our website for more information about these studies and for a link to register.
  • Exploring Our Racism: Exploring Our Racism creates a safe space for brothers and sisters to grapple with the issue of racism and to consider it as a struggle in ourselves. Participants will read through a book together (I’m Still Here by Austin Channing Brown) and engage with the content through personal reflection, conversation with group members, and prayer. The group meets every other week on Wednesday evenings from 7:30pm to 9pm (located TBD once we determine expected attendance). The first meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 11th. If interested, please contact Megan Lowe at MeganRLowe@gmail.com.
  • City Church Basics: Our next session of City Church Basics will take place on Sunday, September 15th from 5:30pm-8pm (dinner included), and Wednesday, September 18th, 7pm-9:30pm, at the CityChurch offices (attendees are expected to attend the Sunday meeting AND the Wednesday meeting). City Church Basics explains who we are as a church and what it means to be a member. It is a necessary step towards formally joining the church, but membership is not required. Please RSVP so we are able to plan for food and materials..

Serving Our Community

  • Volunteer at City Church: Over the next couple of weeks, our volunteer team leaders will begin putting together our fall volunteer rotation, and we’re always on the lookout for new volunteers. If you’re interested in helping out during our Sunday services (nursery, welcome team, facilities, music, sound, prayer, etc.), please email Val Catrow (val@ctiychurchrva.com).
  • Blocking Out Service Dates: If you are already a volunteer at City Church, please make sure to block out any dates you cannot serve for the October-January rotation by Friday, August 30th
Have a great week—and we hope to see you soon!

Val
