September Monthly Meeting Recap
This month's guest speaker was Bill Bryan: Ann Arbor Jaycee, Fourth of July Parade Grand Marshall, and Program Manager for the Buddy-to-Buddy Program. Buddy-to-Buddy pairs volunteer veterans with other veterans and service members in need of support. Volunteers connect their partners with a variety of resources and help identify a reliable point of contact within those resources. Peer-to-peer support and empowerment are what make this program successful. They help serve those who have served and break down the stigma of asking for help.

You can learn more about Buddy-to-Buddy here.

After learning about the important work Bill facilitates in his community, we started brainstorming ways that we, as Jaycees, could tackle a new issue.

The challenge was fairly simple - in a few minutes, design an event that would:

1) Benefit the community
2) Bring in at least one new member
3) Cost no more than $500

We split up into groups and came up with ideas that ranged from a cooking class at a food pantry to a TEDx-style event that comes with a free Jaycees membership.

Feeling inspired? Want to design, pitch, and possibly chair your own event to help your community? We are always open to ideas! Contact Community Vice President, Michael Schultz, at community@a2jaycees.org if you want to start your own project.

Lastly, two new members took the oath alongside Bill. Welcome to the chapter!

Zombie Zap
The first Zombie Zap planning meeting took place on Monday, September 9th. The second meeting will be at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, September 17th, at the Panera on Eisenhower. The second meeting, and possibly the third, will focus on how to cater the event.

We also have a set date for Zombie Zap. The event will be on Tuesday, October 29th, with Zap Zone reserved from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Bountiful Baskets
Save the date for Sunday, November 24th. We need volunteers for Bountiful Baskets, a Thanksgiving food drive and donation event begun by the Ypsilanti Jaycees. Many of the Bountiful Baskets donors and volunteers have been involved for several years, but day of, when families come to pick up the food baskets, additional volunteers are greatly needed. Volunteers help sort the donated items and assemble the baskets.
