AZ Physician Shortage Highlighted in News Media

…the current shortage of doctors in rural Arizona is glaring. Several rural hospitals in the state either currently are experiencing a shortage or expect to experience one in coming years.The shortage of physicians is especially pronounced in primary care. Arizona ranks 44th out of 50 states in total active primary-care physicians, and that shortage is worse in rural areas…
AzCRH Associate Director, Heather Carter is quoted in recent articles in The Arizona Republic and other news outlets.

The 2019 Arizona Veteran Survey is Now Open

The Arizona Veteran Survey was first conducted in 2017. It was the first ever comprehensive survey of our military, veteran and family community, with a focus on strengthening the care, services and support provided to service members, veterans and their families throughout Arizona. The survey is open through December 31, 2019. The University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health and the Pima County Health Department have launched the Academic Health Department (AHD) to enhance public health education, training and research to improve community health in Pima County.)

Hopi Tribe Citizen Scientists Investigate Environmental Hazards

Robin Harris, professor of epidemiology and Mary Kay O’Rourke, professor emeritus from the UA Mel & Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, are co-principal investigators of the Hopi Environmental Health Project and developed the curriculum for the “Citizen Science” component of the study designed for students at Hopi High School in Keams Canyon, Arizona. » Read more.

Casa Grande High School Students Explore Careers in the Health Professions

The Youth Engagement for Success (YES) health education program is a week-long interactive and interprofessional summer camp to introduce high school students in Casa Grande, Arizona to the health professions.
