Dear Students and Families,
We are excited for September and the return of school year schedules! This is the perfect time to develop a routine for practice. One of the biggest factors in progress is standardizing practice to the same time each day. This takes away the extra step of trying to figure out when to practice each day. Rather than trying to find time, the time is already set aside. Whether it's in the morning, after homework, or before bed, make it part of the daily routine and steady progress will be achieved.

I often get asked about the concept of innate talent. I came across a wonderful diagram which I've attached below that summarizes my feelings perfectly. It's all about your mindset.
Here's a great example:
In 1978, Michael Jordan was just another kid in the gym, along with 50 or so of his classmates, trying out for the Emsley A. Laney High School varsity basketball team. There were 15 roster spots. Jordan—then a 15-year-old sophomore who was only 5'10" and could not yet dunk a basketball—did not get one. He picked himself up and turned the cut into motivation. "Whenever I was working out and got tired and figured I ought to stop, I'd close my eyes and see that list in the locker room without my name on it," Jordan would explain. "That usually got me going again." During his brilliant career, Michael Jordan won 6 NBA Championships, earned a total of 14 MVP awards, was selected to 14 All-Star games, won 10 scoring titles... and the list of his achievements goes on and on.
Effort, persistence, and dedication are the keys to success.

How long have you taken lessons at the Academy? This is my 2nd year.
Who are some of your favorite musicians? I like all kinds of Music. T-Pain for Rap. Bruno Mars for pop and Louis Armstrong for jazz are some of my favorites.
What are some of your hobbies besides music? I play lots of sports baseball and football are my two best. Plus I like to sing a lot and read.
What is the coolest thing you have learned in your lessons? I like learning the songs and being able to play along on YouTube.
Do you have any advice to share with other music students? Keep Dreaming. Practice, don’t give up and dream BIG!
