TECHNOLOGY UPDATES AT KURA - INFORMATION FOR WHĀNAU
Over the last term the Kura has been working with various providers to improve our technology Infrastructure so that our tamariki have better access to the digital world for their learning. We connect to the internet with a company called Network for Learning, which connects 98% of New Zealand schools to internet services. N4L provides the kura with a safe and secure Managed Network which includes robust web filtering, threat protection and a firewall. All of this is designed to keep our tamariki as safe as possible whilst using the internet at kura.
In conclusion this means we now have a safer and faster internet connection and network within the kura.

Cybersafety and Netsafe Programmes of Learning at Kura
At kura all the tamariki login to the chrome browser, via a school email address, when they want access to the internet. We have made a conscious decision not to give them access to their actual email addresses so that we can ensure there is no bullying using this platform. By logging in to the chrome browser we are also able to trace what internet sites they have been on at kura. We do this so that we can improve our filtering service and also trace anything if we need to. There is one flaw with this system and that is if a child logs in to the browser / school google account at home we have no control over the content being viewed at home. If your child then comes back to Kura and logs in to their account at school then we will see what sites have been visited at home.
SO WHĀNAU BE AWARE OF THIS AT HOME
Make sure your child logs off the chrome browser or out of the internet account before anyone else in the whānau uses the rorohiko to search on the internet.
As well as all of this, all the tamariki have worked through a cybersafety programme at the start of the year "Pause and Think Online" This was designed to encourage the tamariki to develop strategies for best practise internet use as well as to know what to do when they see or hear something which is not appropriate. Here is a reminder of the catchy song which the tamariki learned.
