An all abilities Queensland: Everybody has a role to play in creating employment opportunities
The last couple of weeks have been action-packed, with important dates creating awareness for brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke and this week - Disability Action Week. These are national initiatives focused on empowering people with disability, raising the profile of disability and describing the impact it has on the lives of people and their families or friends. With 1 in 5 Queenslanders having a disability, most Queenslanders will have been touched by one of these conditions in some way or will be in the future. Sometimes, we forget what an important issue we are focused on.
Disability Action Week is all about acknowledging the contribution that people with disability make in our state, raising awareness of disability issues, & improving access and inclusion throughout the wider community. This years theme, ‘Everybody has a role to play in creating employment opportunities’, aligns with the work of The Hopkins Centre and our vision to value the voice of people with disabilities in all decision-making and discovery. Everybody has a role to play in creating an inclusive accessible community for all.
Take the time to connect to our website, social media and share our important stories and research. Spreading our message is one important way our research is going to have the impact we need to see - supporting bold ideas that translate into better solutions for people with disability and their families and friends.
Stay up to date with our research projects, researchers and partnerships via www.hopkinscentre.edu.au on twitter @hopkins_centre.

Important Data Management Updates
The Australian Code for Responsible Conduct of Research (updated 2018 Code) and the Griffith University Responsible Conduct of Research policies are now very strict. All THC researchers must comply with the responsibilities outlined in both codes - this is a mandatory component of our conditions of employment, but also an important requirement of the university as a whole. Continued employment and university eligibility for NCGs depends on our ability to uphold these codes. Our approach to these changes has been to work proactively with various elements of the university to develop a clear procedure for us to follow and we are working with Metro South Health to understand their unique requirements as well.
Following an excellent data management seminar hosted on Tuesday by Andrew Bowness and Julie Toohey for eResearch Services at Griffith University, THC has developed a data management template to be used by all researchers for each of their projects. The template reflects the standards expected by the ARC, NHMRC, and Griffith University and updates to include further Queensland Health expectations will be coming. This template will be complemented by a new Data Management Standard Operating Procedure that is in the process of being finalised.
If you have any questions or are in need of assistance in any aspect of data management or ethics, please contact our Research Integrity and Compliance Officer, Kelsey Chapman k.chapman@griffith.edu.au

Almost every single day in Australia, someone has their life changed forever by a spinal cord injury. SIP Week encourages everyone to drink all beverages through a straw, just like those with a spinal injury, to help raise funds to find the cure for paralysis.
You have the power to change a life today. You don’t have to run a marathon, or even break a sweat, just drink all your beverages through a straw and fundraise from September 16th - 22nd 2019!
Disability Action Week will be celebrated from September15 - 22 2019. The week acknowledges the important and varied contributions people living with a disability make to our state
