Reform of Vocational Education
THIS TUESDAY - Public Meeting on Workforce Development Councils

Tuesday September 17th, The Verandah Cafe and Function Centre, Rotoroa Drive, Hamilton Lake, 4pm to 6pm.

Earlier this year, during a consultation process, WECA provided a submission on the Reform of Vocational Education proposals to the Ministry of Education and the Tertiary Education Commission. The government is now working through the decisions announced by the Minister of Education on 1 August 2019. As a part of the Workforce Development Council work stream, they are holding public forums around New Zealand this month targeted to employers and industry.

WECA members interested in having their say should attend the meeting on Tuesday.

Meetings will include an overview of our initial work on Workforce Development Councils, and discuss their potential industry coverage and governance. There will also be time to ask questions. Government representatives will be at the venue 30 minutes before the start time.

In addition, if you wish to receive further updates on the Reform of Vocational Education, please sign up to the newsletter by clicking here.

NZ Diploma in Engineering review workshop

In accordance with NZQA regulations, the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering (NZDE) is now due for review.  The aim of this review is to verify whether the NZDE continues to meet the needs of key stakeholders, whether the Graduate Profile is still relevant, and whether any changes to the qualification are required.

The New Zealand Board for Engineering Diplomas (NZBED) values your feedback therefore all NZDE stakeholders; Industry & NZDE Graduates are invited to attend one of the stakeholder meetings being held in October 2019.

The NZDE review workshops will be held in Hamilton at Wintec, 17th October 2019, 4.30pm to 6.30pm. If you wish to attend please send your confirmation of attendance to kim.willis@nzbed.org.nz before the 9th October 2019.

Funded Literary and Numeracy training seminar

Low employee literacy and communication skills (including low levels of English language) undermine efforts to improve performance and productivity, and will be impacting your bottom line. To counteract this, the government provides the Workplace Literacy Fund to provide training in speaking and listening skills as well as reading, writing and maths at your workplace. This is free of charge for eligible learners.

Come to our seminar and hear how it all works for employers – illustrated with a case study from an organisation that has run a number of literacy programmes in their workplace.
Date and time: Thursday 3rd October at 10.00am until midday
Location: EMA, Export NZ, 103 Tristram Street, Hamilton 3240
Refreshments: Tea, coffee and cake will be provided
Cost: No cost, but numbers required for catering.

To register: please contact Sonja Rose (09) 367 0950 or email sonja.rose@ema.co.nz
