Welcome to the Oregon Region's
SEPTEMBER Newsletter!

Annie Winter - RS

Our region was very well represented at two Upper Level National Certifications this month, one that was held by the NW region at Caber Farms and the other held by the Oregon region at Devonwood. Huge congratulations to the following members:

Riding certifications - Alexa Marandas received her B (eventing) and Jordan Schultz her C3 (eventing)
Horse Management certifications -  Jocelynn Ehlers and Alexa Marandas received their H-A and Ailis Ferry and Grace Wagner their H-B.

These members could not have achieved their success without the tireless work of Sharon Cooper who organized many prep clinics this year. Sharon also was responsible for the H-A and H-B tests running flawlessly at Devonwood and I know the 3 National Examiners were highly impressed by the caliber of our members. Thank you to all our Pony Club family who helped out during the testing by providing horses and members as ‘guinea pigs” for the candidates; Adria Fix in particular was a huge help - thank you.

The Region’s Eventing Rally and Clinic was a big success the weekend of August 16 - 18 and Michele Stevens did an awesome job making sure everything ran smoothly. Thank you to Naomi and Jeff Meadows for the use of their lovely farm in Halsey, we are truly spoiled to have such a great venue for pony club events.

And a big thank you to the Youth Board members (Mikayla, Vanessa and Alexa) for putting on a very fun Model Horse Rally on August 11. Thank you to Firefly Stables for providing the venue; we hope that this is a rally that will continue to grow and will be an “entry rally” for our newer and younger members. Thanks to Tracy Stout for steering the Youth Board in the right direction!

It’s back to school month and with that usually comes a reduction in club and region activities. All clubs will be holding their annual meetings in the next month or two and I encourage everyone to attend and have your say.

SAVE THE DATE - Saturday November 2 is the date for the Fall Sponsors meeting (all club leaders encouraged to attend, each club should have at least one leader at this meeting to vote) The meeting will be followed by the Youth Board’s Annual Banquet and Awards Ceremony. More details will be coming soon but ALL members are encouraged to attend. The venue for both the Fall meeting and banquet is Horning Hall at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds.

Thank you to all competitors, parents, volunteers, officials and ponies for attending our 2019 rallies!  We are thrilled to have had so many of you participate in quiz, dressage, show jumping and eventing rallies!

There will be a questionnaire coming your way to help us plan for 2020 rallies - I urge you to fill it in with honest answers so that we can make next year’s rallies even better!   These rallies are YOUR rallies and we want to put them on the calendar where you feel they would fit best, as well as choose the locations that will make you excited to attend!     All of your comments and suggestions will be read and listened to, and I will do my best to make the rallies better than ever!

Use the fall and winter to get in lots of riding practice and lessons! We want you all fit and ready for next year!

If you have questions or comments or want to talk about anything Rally related, please email or call me! rosemontfarm@gmail.com   503-753-5200.  I’ll be pleased to hear from you :)

What an amazing season we've had in the Oregon Region! My heartfelt thanks go out to all of my colleagues on the ORUSPC Board for your tireless and selfless dedication to making our region of Pony Club so awesome. Also, huge thanks to all parents and others who have put their time in at our rallies and other events throughout the year as we truly could not have done it without your help. I'm proud to be a part of Pony Club and I hope you are too.

Sheila Hornocker  - HMO

We hope you and your team had a great time at the eventing rally and HM clinic which was taught by the Chief, Nancy. Those who attended the HM clinic were given a lot of information for attending a rally as well as excellent horse care for home. Nancy covered everything from ways to take rust off metal, which way to turn a horse at jog outs, where to put normal TPR's when going to an eventing rally, items which are useful in a horse equine kit, what not to do if your horse needs sutures, why you should have two thermometers instead of just one, when not to use hydrogen peroxide on your horse and what should be labeled with a red + and at the front of the tack room. If your member is interested in getting my notes, please contact me and I'll be happy to share.

Model Horse Rally - Thank you to everyone who made Model Horse Rally 2019 a success! Our younger Pony Clubbers had a lot of fun learning about rallies and "riding" their model horses. We are already looking forward to next year! DC's and RA's, be sure to tell your young/new members (or non Pony Clubbers!) about this event! It is a fantastic opportunity to have a fun day with friends, learn a lot, and get hooked on Pony Club.
Sincerely,
Mikayla Stout

Club News!

High Lakes PC - had a very fun games day in mid August and everyone enjoyed pole bending, dropping potatoes into buckets and the hurdle race (with a sneaky cup of water waiting to drench unsuspecting kids!). A couple of days before games day, Chloe and Elizabeth competed at the region's clinic/eventing rally on a mixed team with Jumps and Jods. A good time was had by all and Lucas and Cosmo both jumped really well. We are hoping to have 2 new members join us this coming month and will report on that in the next newsletter.

Willow brook PC - took off most of August, but did hold one "D" camp. We're starting up the new month with lots planned for September. If anyone is interested we are having the Clark County Public Works Vegetation Management Field Inspector out to our unmounted on September 16th. Contact Penny Cox if you would like to come!

Oregon Trail PC - The members of the Oregon Trail eventing team really enjoyed Meadows Vineyard. The day went by really quickly but it was a lot of fun! Thank you to the Meadows family for hosting us, the board members who worked so hard to organize the event and all the sponsors for making it a success.

Fox Hills PC - The Fox Hills team at fancy dress competition displaying "3 Day Eventing"

Mylo as dressage, Cat as cross country and Paige as show jumping.
