September 2019 Newsletter
(The view from Wantastiquet)

Welcome to the Better-Late-Than-Never September Brattleboro Time Trade Newsletter!

The big news this month is that rather than a potluck, we will be taking a hike!   Here are the details from Tom:

Wantastiquet Mountain Hike
Sunday 9/15/19 at 10am

Let's hike the mountain, across the river, that overlooks Brattleboro.  Meet at 10:00am in the dirt parking area toward the end of Mountain Road on the right behind the store called Runnings.  If the hiking trail's parking area is full, it is generally recommended to park in the Runnings parking lot and then walk around the right side and rear of the store to get to the trailhead.

The trail follows an old gravel road with many switchbacks.  After ascending 1,100 feet over about 2.5 miles, the trail passes a rock promontory with excellent views across the Connecticut River Valley.  After viewing and resting at the promontory, we will return the same way.  Note: this is a moderately strenuous hike.

Alternatively, there is a relatively level trail that is alongside the river.   It is 2.2 miles long roundtrip: beginning at the same parking area and ending at Mountain Rd in West Chesterfield.  We can divide the group into one for each trail, if desired.  We may have an optional snack potluck at the high or far point of the hike(s).

Calendar/Events

  • Sunday, September 15: The September Potluck  will be a Hike! See above for all details.  We hope you can join us!
  • Tuesday, October 15: Board Meeting.  The next BTT Board Meeting will be at 6:00 in the Coop Community Room.  The space is accessible and all BTT members are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Our Community

  • We are postponing the Repair Cafe event, which was originally scheduled for this October, to this Spring.  This will allow more time to really organize a great event.  If you are interested in helping with the process of making this event happen, please contact Tony or Kip!
  • Most trades go well. Folks get stuff accomplished, try out new or existing skills, share their resources, and sometimes make lasting connections. However...as we all know...some trades are problematic -- things don't go quite as expected.
The Board is looking into forming a committee to consider how trades can be improved.  Would you like to be part of the discussion? Please get in touch with Donna so we can get this discussion off the ground!

Take the Two-Month Time Trade Challenge!
So, how did it go???

Last month, we challenged all Time Trade members to commit to doing at least one time trade exchange each month for the months of August and September.  Were you able to do this?  We'd love to hear about how it went!

What is hard about doing trades?  What would make it easier for you to participate more regularly?  The Board is looking for ways to encourage greater engagement with our community and participation in our organization.  What would you like to see happen?  What projects would be interesting to you?  What if we had more funding, what could we do then?  Please send your ideas to me, and I will find ways (board meetings, newsletter, etc) to share them with our organization!
