Greetings from Sean Kennedy
As we approach the start of the 2019-2020 academic year, I want to sincerely thank all of you for your work over the past months to prepare for a successful start-up and Fall term.
In every area of International, we have achieved fantastic results. From successful proposals for new offshore projects and increased inbound contract training activity over the summer in Global Education and Partnerships, through the renewal of campus operations contracts in Saudi Arabia, a significant diversification effort in International Recruitment and Admissions, support for Be World Ready students on summer exchanges and attending summer institute programs, to the many summer and short term groups from our partners around the world in the School of English Language Studies, you have all contributed to incredible successes.
Amongst all this great work, I would like to highlight collaborative developments that International’s Student Services, Marketing, Recruitment and Admissions areas implemented in response to the large cohort of international students last Fall, to ensure you are all aware of the new resources available at NC. Significant work has been done to increase and improve the number and variety of offerings to support pre-arrival training and on-campus orientation for our international students. NC now provides a series of online training modules, a pre-term weekly email bulletin, Facebook Live pre-departure sessions, in-person in-country pre-arrival training in key markets, and enhanced on-campus pre-orientation programs. Your work to develop and implement these initiatives is a shining example of Niagara College’s commitment to student success and support the College’s mission and vision; I hope you are as proud as I am of the efforts you have put forth to expand our work in this area.
We are excited to be welcoming over 1,600 new international students in September and welcome them to the Niagara College family. I encourage you to keep in mind our Welcoming and Passionate NC DNA traits over the coming weeks as we support the transition of international students to Canada and to our college. I hope that you had a chance over the summer to take a break, enjoy time with your families and friends, and recharge. Every year, I look forward to seeing the smiling faces of our new students arriving to begin their NC story, and I hope you are as energized and motivated by their excitement, promise, and enthusiasm as I am.
