1.  2019 AIMS International Safety Award presented to Ronald E. Burback; 2019 AIMS Lifetime Contribution Award presented to Gary Slade

ATHOL, Idaho – Ronald E. Burback was presented with the 2019 AIMS International Safety Award during the Golden Ticket Awards held Saturday, September 7, at Silverwood Theme Park in Athol, Idaho. The Award, presented to Ron by AIMS Executive Director, Mary Jane Brewer and AIMS board member, Roger Berry, recognizes a person or organization that has made a significant impact or contribution in improving safety in the amusement industry by demonstrating leadership, innovation, and foresight.
 

2.  American Dream is set to open in six weeks. We finally got a look inside

Ahead of its long-anticipated grand opening on Oct. 25, officialsinvited a small team from (201) Magazine — an affiliate of NorthJersey.com, The Record and the USA TODAY NETWORK New Jersey — inside the project for a fashion photoshoot in August. As part of the magazine's welcome, the team stepped past American Dream's guarded walls and into the sleek, developing world the public will soon know firsthand.
 

3.  Noise, traffic among Goshen residents’ complaints about Legoland

GOSHEN – Love thy neighbor, unless it’s Legoland New York.  Arcadia Hills residents are complaining about noise, traffic and a Legoland proposal to move dirt piles at the future Town of Goshen amusement park, under construction near Route 17′s Exit 125 and their housing development.  The company has proposed moving approximately 80,000 cubic yards of topsoil to stockpiles in a back corner of the construction site, between Reservoir and Conklingtown roads, to reduce truck traffic.

4.  Family shares in the fun of owning a classic amusement park in Delaware

Al Fasnacht, 90, is the senior-most member of the family that has run Funland, the classic amusement park on the boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, since 1962.

5.  Herschend gets Chuggington back on track

After succeeding in the themed family entertainment space for more than 60 years, Atlanta, Georgia-based Herschend Enterprises is looking to expand its growing kids and family business with homegrown IP development, acquisitions and partnerships.

7.  Hong Kong’s Ocean Park sees less tourists amid chaos - Photos

Visitors are few and far between at the Ocean Park in Hong Kong, Sept. 10, 2019. The Ocean Park, situated on the southern side of Hong Kong Island, is Hong Kong's premier educational theme park, and a must-visit attraction for many tourists. 8.  Local man starts petition to stop Coney Island officials from removing amusement park rides

Coney Island officials announced Monday that all amusement park rides will be removed by the end of the 2019 season to shift the focus to enhancing its water park area, which they said is what a majority of guests come to the park to enjoy.

10.  Frozen, Marvel headline 2020 events at Disneyland Paris

The Disneyland Paris Resort announced its festival line-up for the next 12 months. The events include a new Frozen Celebration as well as the return of the resort’s Marvel event, both leading up to the debut of new attractions based on those franchises starting later next year.

11.  Blackpool Pleasure Beach: Nostalgic pieces from park's history for sale

lackpool Pleasure Beach are once again selling some classic ride parts online, for collectors and members of the public alike. Last year, two of the famous Wild Mouse cars were auctioned off for charity, raising more than 4800 pounds for Give Kids the World and over 4000 pounds for IAAPA Foundation. From the Gold Mine, which was situated on the theme park for 40 years, to monorail train carriages and a classic Velvet Coaster car, all are available to purchase from the Blackpool Pleasure Beach website. 

12.  Cedar Point’s HalloWeekends 2019 kicks off with zombie wedding this Friday the 13th

SANDUSKY, Ohio — It’ll be love at first fright this Friday the 13th, when Cedar Point kicks off its popular HalloWeekends event with a six-couple zombie wedding.

13.  Investors line up for Parques Reunidos loan

LONDON, Sept 11 (LPC) - Banks are showing a select group of investors a €1.16bn debt financing backing Swedish private equity firm EQT’s acquisition of Madrid-based theme park operator Parques Reunidos, banking sources said on Tuesday.

14.  Global Village: what to expect from the new season at Dubai's international theme park

Dubai's Global Village is set to reopen its doors for another thrilling season on Tuesday, October 29. The international theme park is returning for its 24th season, and will remain open until Saturday, April 4, 2020.

17.  Allentown man facing weapons charges following arrest at Great Adventure

According to a press release from the Jackson Police Department, at 11 a.m. Aug. 29 while working a security detail assignment at Great Adventure, Jackson Police Sgt. Michael Kelly and Jackson Police Officer Andy Falzarano were alerted by security personnel to a man at the employee training center who had reportedly come to seek a job.

1.  Tottenham to debut first standalone NFL attraction outside the US

Tottenham Hotspur is introducing the first stand-alone NFL visitor attraction outside of the US, with the football club adding an American Football tour to its stadium experience.

2.  Retailtainment trends: Report shows entertainment boom in malls

An ICSC report showing that the retailtainment trend – entertainment in retail environments – is becoming increasingly important for malls’ success in the US.  The study found that in US malls between Q1 2010 and Q1 2019, entertainment square footage grew by 44.7%.

3.  Chuck E. Cheese in Mishawaka gets a makeover

Chuck E. Cheese in Mishawaka along Mckinley Avenue is back open after receiving a new renovation.  A ribbon cutting was held September 10 for the restaurant/arcade’s reopening.

4.  Dave & Buster's (PLAY) Surpasses Q2 Earnings Estimates

Dave & Buster's (PLAY) came out with quarterly earnings of $0.90 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.86 per share. This compares to earnings of $0.84 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.  This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of 4.65%. 

5.  Urban Air Adventure Park Introduces Exhilarating Indoor Attractions to Trexlertown, Pennsylvania

DALLAS, TX – September 10, 2019 – Urban Air, the premier indoor family entertainment company, announced today it is expanding to include a new Urban Air Adventure Park in Trexlertown. Urban Air Adventure Parks usher-in a new dimension of active entertainment including wall-to-wall trampolines and aerial sports offering a wide range of activities that appeal to all ages and skill sets. The new park will open at 6900 Hamilton Avenue, Trexlertown, PA in the Spring of 2020.

6.  Plans for indoor adventure park approved in Mishawaka

A new Urban Air Adventure Park in Mishawaka came closer to reality Tuesday when the Plan Commission approved plans for the development on the site of the former USA State Center.  The former roller rink, at 3909 N. Main St., will be razed, and a new 35,000-square-foot structure will be built for the adventure park.

7.  This Brand New 1,000 Foot ZipLine Course Near Atlanta Will Put Your Guts To The Test

There are many adventures waiting for those who live in Georgia, you just have to be able to find them. Most of them are located in the North Georgia mountain area, including this massive zip line park near Atlanta. This park has opened a new line for a limited time and you do not want to miss it. 

8.  St. Augustine's 'iconic' carousel to be dismantled

The carousel in St. Augustine's Davenport Park that locals describe as a beloved landmark will close Sunday and never reopen, city leaders learned Tuesday.  City Manager John Regan learned that the operator of the J&S Carousel died suddenly Friday and his widow has decided to dismantle the carousel, which has been a St. Augustine landmark since 1992.

9.  Drive Shack and Topgolf venues set opening dates

Two golf entertainment complexes are slated to swing into the Richmond region in the next couple of weeks.  Drive Shack plans to open its 65,000-square-foot venue off West Broad Street Road just east of state Route 288 in Goochland County on Sept. 20, the company said.

10.  REMEMBERING 9/11: HOURS FOR SEPTEMBER 11 MEMORIAL AND MUSEUM, FLIGHT 93 MEMORIAL IN SHANKSVILLE, PA

On Wednesday, people nationwide will commemorate the 18th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Following the attacks at the World Trade Center, Pentagon and on United Airlines Flight 93, several memorials were erected across the country.  Those who find themselves in New York City on September 11 will not be able to visit the national museum, although there will be time to see the memorial.

1.  Schlitterbahn Water Park and Resort named world's best for 22nd year in a row

Schlitterbahn Water Park and Resort in New Braunfels maintained its winning streak as the world's top water park after it was named the world's best for the 22nd consecutive year.

2.  Atlantis, The Palm joins forces with Addmind to launch white beach

Dubai: Atlantis, The Palm and leading nightlife and entertainment powerhouse Addmind have joined forces to launch the hottest beach club destination in the city with WHITE Beach. Located on the shores of the iconic entertainment resort, this new hotspot will launch in November 2019 and is set to shake up Dubai’s definition of dining, entertainment and nightlife. 

3.  Elizabethton leaders take steps toward whitewater park

Elizabethton leaders are now taking a step forward on a proposed whitewater attraction.  The Surf Betsy idea calls for building a water park on the Watauga River. The city council will vote Thursday whether to approve a Surf Betsy task force to study the idea.

4.  Waterworld Central creates a splash in Bundaberg

The Bundaberg Recreational Precinct is about to transform into a world of inflatable slides, rides and summer fun when Waterworld Central comes to town.  For those craving great summer outdoor activities, get excited because the mobile water park is returning to the region for just over two weeks from Saturday, 21 September to Monday, 7 October 2019.

1.  NC budget uses disaster relief funds to pay for Fort Fisher aquarium expansion

About $5 million intended for Hurricane Florence disaster relief may instead be used to enhance one of Southeast North Carolina’s most popular tourist attractions.  A News & Observer review of the N.C. General Assembly’s budget documents found that money designated “to support repairs” actually would partly fund a 20,000-square-foot expansion at the N.C. Aquarium at Fort Fisher — which suffered far less damage during the September 2018 hurricane than the $5 million included in the budget.

2.  Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular Returning To Roger Williams Park Zoo

ne of Rhode Island's most beloved fall traditions is returning to the Roger Williams Park Zoo. Starting October 3, the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular will light up the zoo's Wetlands Trail at night.  This year's theme celebrates the beauty of New England, with hundreds of pumpkins intricately carved with the region's seasonal beauty.

3.  First Ever Clouded Leopard Cubs Debut at the Smithsonian's National Zoo

For the first time, the Smithsonian’s National Zoo is home to rare clouded leopard cubs. The two cubs are the newest residents on the Zoo’s Asia Trail and will make their public debut Wednesday, Sept. 11. The Zoo has been home to adult clouded leopards since 2006.

4.  Say hello to Pitino! Racine Zoo welcomes new emperor tamarin

The Racine Zoo is welcoming a cute new member to their animal family this week as part of a new Species Survival Plan.  Pitino, a new emperor tamarin, arrived at the zoo this week as a transfer from the Como Park Zoo and Conservatory in Saint Paul.

5.  German zoo uses security guards against anti-social visitors

A German zoo has taken a rigorous measure to curb anti-social visitors. During the summer holidays, the Krefeld Zoo hired security guards to protect the animals. Various German media report this.

6.  Binder Park Zoo received AZA accreditation

The Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) is announcing that Binder Park Zoo has been  granted accreditation by AZA’s independent Accreditation Commission.  Although BPZ has been accredited since 1983, the Zoo has to pass an examination every five years to maintain its status.

7.  Zoo Keeper Injured In Attack By Tiger In Delhi

An animal keeper at a zoo in Delhi was attacked by an “unwell and distressed” Bengal tiger when he went to fill its water bowl in the present day morning, officers mentioned.  The zoo’s curator mentioned the worker suffered minor accidents within the assault.

8.  Zoo temporarily closes due to storm damage

Louisiana Purchase Gardens & Zoo will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday following Monday afternoon storms that caused damage in multiple north Louisana parishes.  Director Joe Clawson said the closure is necessary for cleanup. He reports all the animals are safe and secure. 

9.  Jekyll Island’s turtle hospital drove its 90 patients to Atlanta to keep them safe from Hurricane Dorian

As Hurricane Dorian made landfall in the Bahamas on September 1, causing extreme destruction that left several dead and missing and at least 70,000 homeless, those living along the Georgia coast anxiously kept a close eye on where the then-category 5 hurricane would head next.

10.  Sarasota Commission asks staff to identify Mote aquarium funding source

While Sarasota County Commissioners stressed that they have not committed to contributing $20 million to the Mote Science Education Aquarium at Nathan Benderson Park, they asked staff to identify where in future budgets a potential contribution would come from.

Perhaps one of the most exciting developments in the field of visual communications is the adoption of large-format 3D printing. The power of this technology to wow audiences and draw them in is immense. I mean, what could be cooler than an 8-foot baseball player mannequin in a sporting goods store? Customers eyes are magnetically drawn toward it, pulling them in to interact with it.

2.  McDonald’s acquires Apprente to bring voice technology to drive-thrus

McDonald’s is increasingly looking at tech acquisitions as a way to reinvent the fast-food experience. Today, it’s announcing that it’s buying Apprente, a startup building conversational agents that can automate voice-based ordering in multiple languages.

3.  Talk about mixed messages! These hilariously confusing signs will leave customers scratching their heads

A well-placed sign is an ideal way to attract new customers and promote your business, but getting the wording wrong can spell disaster.  In an attempt to be creative, some businesses have ended up sending out some rather mixed messages, including an establishment that bizarrely banned aliens from the premises. 

4.  What will replace the empty Imax at Newport on the Levee?

CINCINNATI — Newport on the Levee could get a grand new entrance at the end of Monmouth Street along with a hotel and performance venue in the long-dormant Imax theater space, based on a rendering submitted recently to the city of Newport by North American Properties.

5.  Drinking non-bottled water on an airplane not recommended

Flyers on U.S. airlines should avoid drinking any water that doesn't come from a sealed bottle. And yes, that goes for coffee and tea drinkers, too. 

6.   The Most Iconic Oktoberfest Celebrations in the US

There's nothing quite like celebrating Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany but you don't need to visit Europe to experience this lively fall tradition. In case you didn't know, America knows how to throw a party and these domestic Oktoberfest celebrations are guaranteed to have you requesting a refill.
