Demonstrators demand the release of the remaining bodies of the Palestinian martyrs who have been killed by Israeli occupation forces and whose bodies are still being held in custody by occupation forces. Among the demonstrators present at Ibn Rushd in al-Khalil (Hebron) were family members of those killed by the occupation, demanding the right to bury their loved ones with honor and dignity. As of August 2019, over 50 Palestinian bodies still remain under occupation custody, held indefinitely in refrigerated storage. (27 August 2019)
Craftspeople of al-Khalil:
An interview with
Bader & Zachariah

Bader al-Tamimi’s shop stands at the entrance to the Old City of al-Khalil (Hebron). He is a well-known figure in the area and acts as an important link between local traders and residents within the part of the Hebron Governorate that is based in the Old City. Bader, an artist himself, provides a supportive hub and an outlet for the work of other artists from the Old City, and it was one of these, a potter named Zachariah al-Qudsi, that we went to meet at Bader’s shop.

The Old City has always been a city of craftspeople and artists, but the consequences of the Israeli occupation have severely reduced the number of both the artists working there and of tradespeople of all kinds. Only a small glass factory and a sand artist remain as manufacturing enterprises, but there are still many shops that exhibit and sell the traditional work of Palestinian specialists. Israeli settlers once again occupy Abu Rajab's family home near the Ibrahimi Mosque. Around 30 settlers entered the Palestinian house, some of whom were carrying weapons, and began moving furniture in and out to prepare for a provocative party in front of the Abu Rajab house. "Six years ago the settlers took over the whole house using fake documents, and the Israeli High Court ordered to evacuate the settlers," says Hazem Abu Rajab. Since then, settlers and soldiers have attacked the Abu Rajab family many times. Hazem says, "If all the settlers come to attack us, we still won't leave the house. It's been our home for generations, and my grandparents built its old walls." (25 August 2019)
This Palestinian man had been leaving the Ibrahimi Mosque for Friday prayers when the Israeli Border Police demanded that he remove his clothes for a body search. After refusing to take his clothes off, the border police grabbed the man and pulled him behind the military checkpoint. After several minutes of detention, the border police marched the man down the street and around a corner. The border police pushed the Palestinian man against a wall and aggressively body searched him, before eventually releasing him. (23 August 2019)
An estimated 1,200 Israeli settlers, along with members of the Israeli Knesset, gather at Bab al-Baladiyeh for a march down Shuhada Street to the Ibrahimi Mosque. The French Zionist group "Israel Is Forever" organizes this march in al-Khalil (Hebron) every year. (14 August 2019)
A 15-year-old Palestinian boy is pushed against the wall and aggressively body searched by Israeli Border Police while walking through the market in the Old City. (28 August 2019)
