We Are Sending Her Out!
As we learned during Fr. Michael’s instructional liturgy, the prayer after communion contains the words "send us out (into the world, in peace) to do the work you have given us to do.” That time has come for Morgan Scheinin, who will be spending the next 27 months in Cameroon with the Peace Corp. Breakfast Sunday October 6th
In Parish Hall at 9am between services
Our next Fellowship Breakfast is coming up fast!!! Consider sleeping in or having a less hectic morning by joining fellow parishioners between services for a tasty repast provided by volunteers. If you would like to donate a breakfast item this time, please see the sign-up sheet on the Fellowship counter each Sunday or email Jo Ellen Richardson at joellenrr@comcast.net. We are always in need of pre-cooked bacon/sausages (2 doz), breakfast casseroles (meatless and GF are always appreciated), sweet breads or fruit offerings. Ovens are ready to keep your pre-cooked item warm during the 8am service. You may bring your offering by 8:50am if you worship at the 10:30 service. Sunday school starts at 9:30 on breakfast Sundays.
Calling All Musicians
Our regular chancel choir will soon begin with the first choir anthem being sung on Sunday, September 8th. Regular rehearsals begin on Thursday, September 5th at 7:00 pm in the sanctuary. All singers from 6th grade to 99+ are welcome to come and join our group.
Remember, this is an important ministry of worship and no auditions are necessary. Choir rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm and again on Sunday mornings from 9:45 am to 10:15 am. Next Big Thing Update
Dear Friends, We will pay $24,290 in September for the mortgage principal. That’s great news and saves us roughly around $6,000 in interest. We also have a few more pledges to the campaign, 32 pledges at $180,240. That is also great news. If we have about 150 families, and 32 have pledged to the mortgage, then if we have the other 118 families all pledge a minimum of $285 a year we can pay off the mortgage. I know not everyone can afford that, but I also know many can afford more than that. Please help us pay off the mortgage so we can spend our money on YOUTH, OUTREACH, and MUSIC!! THANKS! Fr. Michael+

Parker Wine Walk
5 to 8 PM

We have had over 740 guests visit during this year's Wine Walks and many opportunities to share with newcomers about St. Matthew’s! Please join in this fun event to let people know who we are and where we are! We've had many more people inquire about the times of the services and enjoy hearing the church's history. Several families have come to service on Sundays after learning about us from the wine walk. At the walk, people are telling each other that everyone needs to go to the friendly Church around the corner. So, come on down, help pour, and meet new people in our community. It really is helping to get the word out about our church.

Changes to Building Access
The kitchen door has been changed to a pass-through window. Those who used to access the building using the kitchen door can use the same code to access the new lock box near the window. The key inside the lock box opens the door to the Narthex. Please put the key back immediately after using it. Any questions, please contact Mary Pat at office@smecp.org.

Quest!!! Yes that’s right! It’s time to register for Quest. Quest is our Fall youth retreat at Frontier Ranch in Buena Vista. We leave Friday 10/25 at 4:00 and return Sunday 10/27 at around 4:00. Upcoming Events
Fellowship Volunteers needed
Do you enjoy coffee or tea and a few goodies after church while visiting with friends and newcomers? Volunteers who provide these goodies do so about once a month or every 6 weeks. We are in need of more volunteers, especially for the 10:30 service. This ministry involves refreshing the coffee before the service and setting out home-made or store-bought goodies. Clean up after the service is quick and easy and is usually completed by 12:15.

Volunteers needed for Lawn Mowing
It’s time to mow the lawn. A tradition at St. Matthew’s has been to have this weekly task (on Fridays or Saturdays) performed by members of the congregation, similar to snow removal. All of the required equipment is available in the shed. A sign-up sheet is posted in the Building and Grounds section of the large bulletin board in the Parish Hall. Questions??? First Aid Volunteer List
We would like to create an on-going list of parishioners who would be able to help out in a medical emergency during service. If you are trained in first aid or have medical training and would be available to help out if someone needed medical assistance during services on Sundays, please contact Mary Pat Gallagher at office@smecp.org. A list will be compiled and given to Steve Smith to share with the ushers each week. Once you've volunteered, we ask that you let the ushers know when you are at a service so they can call on you if there is a need.
Ever Wanted to Visit the Holy Land?
Sandy Schwindy is putting together another tour to the Holy Land for next year. The travel dates are July 28th through August 6th of 2020. The cost for the trip is $3,600. Stops include the Sea of Galilee, Capernaum, Nazareth, Bethlehem, Jerusalem. Sandy is taking deposits now. Questions? Contact her at 2schwindys@gmail.com

Riches of Grace Support Groups
Wednesdays from 7:00 to 8:30 pm starting Sept 4
Are you or someone you care about living with a mental health difficulty? Life can feel chaotic, lonely, and hopeless when we face challenges alone. Riches of Grace is a mental health support group that provides a space for you to connect with others and learn tools to help.
We will be meeting each Wednesday starting September 4th from 7:00-8:30 pm in the Parish Hall. The Family Grace group is for people with family members who are going through mental health difficulties. The Living Grace group is for those who themselves experience mental health difficulties. Sessions are free, confidential, and everyone is welcome!
If you are interested in becoming a small group facilitator for the Riches of Grace small groups, contact Lynda Schutzenberger at 562-338-5477. We will be setting up an upcoming training date based on interested peoples' availability.
Midweek Worship & Discussion Group
Tuesdays at 7:00pm. Our Mid-week Worship and Discussion Group meets on Tuesday evenings at 7pm, upstairs in Balcomb House. We begin with Evening Prayer and then move to a topic associated with adult spiritual development.
Currently, we are discussing meditations by CS Lewis, Mark Nepo and others.
Our goal is to offer group spiritual direction through sharing. We’ve covered topics as varied as using the Book of Common Prayer, meditation, and developing a Christian Rule of Life. Centering Prayer
Saturdays at 9:00 am. Centering Prayer is a renewal of an ancient form of Christian prayer. It is a method of consenting to the presence and action of Christ in the stillness of our being. It is an exercise of faith, hope and love, moving beyond conversation with Christ to communion. The fruit of this prayer is a growing sense of God’s leading us beyond anxiety into an inner stillness and peace, and outward in compassion and service. Anyone desiring to deepen his or her prayer life will benefit.

Children’s Chapel
Children’s Chapel is for all children preschool through 3rd grade. The children join the procession at the beginning of the 10:30 am service and gather together in the Balcomb House to hear the gospel story. From there we discuss and learn the meaning of the gospel using activities and crafts to enhance the story. The children come back to “big church” during The Peace. The Parker Task Force is dedicated to providing individuals and families in our community with food, limited financial assistance and other support services to help them become self-sufficient. Readings for Sunday, September 15
Exodus 32:7-14
The Lord said to Moses, "Go down at once! Your people, whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have acted perversely; they have been quick to turn aside from the way that I commanded them; they have cast for themselves an image of a calf, and have worshiped it and sacrificed to it, and said, `These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!'" The Lord said to Moses, "I have seen this people, how stiff-necked they are. Now let me alone, so that my wrath may burn hot against them and I may consume them; and of you I will make a great nation."
But Moses implored the Lord his God, and said, "O Lord, why does your wrath burn hot against your people, whom you brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand? Why should the Egyptians say, `It was with evil intent that he brought them out to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth'? Turn from your fierce wrath; change your mind and do not bring disaster on your people. Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, how you swore to them by your own self, saying to them, `I will multiply your descendants like the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have promised I will give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever.'" And the Lord changed his mind about the disaster that he planned to bring on his people.

I am grateful to Christ Jesus our Lord, who has strengthened me, because he judged me faithful and appointed me to his service, even though I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and a man of violence. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners-- of whom I am the foremost. But for that very reason I received mercy, so that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display the utmost patience, making me an example to those who would come to believe in him for eternal life. To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
Luke 15:1-10
All the tax collectors and sinners were coming near to listen to Jesus. And the Pharisees and the scribes were grumbling and saying, "This fellow welcomes sinners and eats with them."
So he told them this parable: "Which one of you, having a hundred sheep and losing one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the one that is lost until he finds it? When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders and rejoices. And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and neighbors, saying to them, `Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep that was lost.' Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.
"Or what woman having ten silver coins, if she loses one of them, does not light a lamp, sweep the house, and search carefully until she finds it? When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, `Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.' Just so, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."
