A message from the PTSA President

Dear Woodmoor Families,

I want to express my gratitude to all the families and parents came to our first general meeting this school year. It was an awesome turn out.

Two highlights from the meeting are added budget items that membership passed. The first was for Mystery Science which is an awesome supplement to NSD’s current Science Curriculum that will get our students excited for Science, creating future Engineers and Scientists to take on and solve world problems. The second was  for the Sasquatch Challenge, where our 4th and 5th graders will be challenged to read 8 of 12 books provided in each classroom. This will help to foster a love of reading for our older students.

The last item I would like to discuss is our open positions. There are still some available, so please reach out to me via email. I want to spotlight two open positions, the first, being co-Treasurer. This position shares the responsibilities with the Treasurer and is something that can be done outside of school hours, so is great for a working parent to take on. If you have more questions, you can reach out to our Treasurer (Karra Whitmire.) The other role is Yearbook. We will have all the students' photos from picture day (coming up 9/17), so the important part of this role is getting those candid pictures of the different events/clubs/etc that personalize the year book and help preserve our students' memories. If you're interested or have questions, please contact me.

I have been touched by the support our Woodmoor community has been providing our school and our students. This is going to be a great year because of all of you.

Thank you,

Dawn Olmsted
PSTA President

ART DOCENT
Become an art docent – a fun way to volunteer in your child’s classroom
Becoming an art docent is easy, requires a small time commitment and no previous experience is necessary.
Not an artist? No problem. The students are the ones making the art.
Not a teacher? We’ve got you covered. You can choose from a dozen prepared lessons, plans and projects. And, we will have training for all new art docents, so you know how to prepare and what to expect.
No free time?  Don’t worry, about 1 1/2 hours a month is all it takes. Art docents teach once a month, and the lessons usually last 30-60 minutes.

The kids love art time and will be excited to see you walk in the classroom. And, you’ll be surprised how fun it is to help the kids create masterpieces.

We hope you become the newest art docent!

Save the Date!
October 26 and 27, 2019
Learn more about our legislative priorities and enhance your skills in grassroots advocacy.

This year is the second year of our platform, so the business before the delegates will include discussion and debate on issues to add to the "also supported" listlong term principles, and resolutions.

This is also a great chance for students to see advocacy first-hand and to participate in the process if they are designated as a delegate.

Registration will be opening soon. Please contact Dawn Olmsted if you’re interested in attending as a voting delegate. Reimbursement for registration cost is available for a limited number of attendees
Highly Capable Program
The process regarding Highly Capable Eligibility for current Northshore students has changed slightly for the 2019-2020 school year. Universal screening will occur for grades K, 1, and 5. In all other grades, students will be screened only if parents complete a permission to participate waiver, which is currently available online through October 25. For full details and updates, refer to NSD's Highly Capable Services page.

We have become aware of spam/phishing emails that claim to be from someone representing  Woodmoor PTSA. The messages ask the recipient to purchase expensive gift cards for the PTSA. If you receive an email like this, please report it as spam and delete it. While we occasionally ask for donations for events like Bingo Night, we do so through this newsletter, our web site, or our Facebook page, not through individual emails.
