The Big Reveal: FAB's New Mission Statement!
We are proud to announce that the Farm Alliance of Baltimore has a new mission statement! The farmers and board of directors have spent about 18 months creating this statement which we feel reflects our organization's current mission and values. Here it is!
The Farm Alliance of Baltimore is a membership organization of urban farms, neighborhood growers, and friends. We use connection, resource sharing, and collective advocacy with respect to food, land and water to expand communities' self-determination and power.
We welcome your response to this new statement of our mission. If you send us any thoughts and emotions that this statement brings up for you, we may include them in future Farm Alliance newsletters! Thank you for being a wonderful supporter of the Farm Alliance of Baltimore as we continue to grow and change along with our members.

Get Your Hands Dirty with Us
Want to join in the fall fun at some of our member farms and allied organizations?
September 14, 9am-3pm: Barn Build for Goats at Filbert Street Garden
October 12, 4pm-7pm: Farm to Table Community Dinner at GreatKids Farm. Tickets available for purchase here.
Our community cooking demonstrations given by Chef Crystal Forman of Holistic Wellness and Health are free and open to the public. Please come join us as Chef Crystal shows us how to prepare the produce from Farm Alliance member farms in delicious ways. Once a month, we are pairing these demos with a pop-up market stand so residents can also purchase the produce right there. Here is a list of our upcoming community cooking demos:
Sept 10th, 1pm, City View At McCulloh, 501 Dolphin St. (with pop-up market stand)
Sept 10th, 6pm, Lillian Jones Apartments, 1303 Greenmount Ave.
Please check our Farm Alliance of Baltimore Facebook page for additional dates and details about each demonstration. Addresses of all our member farms can be found on our website.
Food, Farms and Land in the News
Farmer Leah Penniman, a leader in the movement for justice in local food systems and farming, says facing US history of racist policies toward Black and Indigenous farmers is a critical step toward reparations;
The Baltimore Sun featured a new farm, BLISS Meadows, that is growing in the Frankford neighborhood in East Baltimore;
The U of MD's Howard Center for Investigative Journalism partnered with CNS and NPR to publish this comprehensive investigation into how the urban heat island effect is harming African American communities more than other communities in Baltimore -- and what can be done about it. (SPOILER: One solution involves planting things!)
Thank you to all of our volunteers, donors, and supporters who feed us, compost with us, garden with us, donate books and artwork, and give generously of their energy and money to support our work. We are grateful and excited to be growing in our ninth year with you!
