IPCC Head to Speak at Int'l Conference on #Atoms4Climate
IAEA Launches Revamped Nuclear Communicator's Toolbox

The leader of the United Nations body responsible for assessing climate change science will headline a group of prominent speakers at the Int'l Conference on Climate Change and the Role of Nuclear Power, to be held in Vienna in October.

The IAEA’s Nuclear Communicator's Toolbox, an online resource designed for technical staff as well as communication professionals offers access to reference information for crafting and implementing a communication plan.
Over 700 Professionals Trained through IAEA's Nuclear Knowledge Management Schools   IAEA Training Course Helps Nuclear Newcomers in Site Selection for NPPs

With the closure of the 15th Joint IAEA-ICTP Nuclear Knowledge Management School, the IAEA celebrated a milestone of training over 700 young professionals, since the inception of the Nuclear Knowledge Management School in 2004.

An IAEA interregional training course has helped managers and decision makers considering the introduction of nuclear power to gain a better understanding of the key issues that affect the selection of a suitable site for a new NPP.
Nuclear Newcomers Tackle Spent Nuclear Fuel and Radioactive Waste Management   IAEA to Develop Guidance for the Management of Depleted Uranium used in DSRS Shielding

Growing demand for large-scale, low carbon electricity has prompted many countries to consider nuclear power to meet their growing energy needs. The IAEA supports its Member States in establishing policies on spent nuclear fuel.    When a cancer therapy machine reaches the end of its life, attention centres on the safe and effective management of the disused sealed radioactive source (DSRS). Experts met in Vienna to discuss the management of depleted uranium shielding.

Nuclear Operators Enhance Safety through IAEA Peer Reviews   Small Modular Reactors: A Challenge for Spent Fuel Management?

Operators of nuclear facilities act promptly on the findings of IAEA Operational Safety Review Team missions, a recent IAEA analysis has shown. Over 95% of the findings are resolved or in satisfactory progress by the time of follow-up missions, usually conducted 18 months after the main mission.    SMRs have been the talk of scientists and researchers in the nuclear industry for many years — but to what extent will their debut create challenges in spent fuel management? It depends, say experts, on the particular SMR design and a country’s existing spent fuel management practices.

Under One Roof: Russia's Integrated Strategy for Spent Fuel Management   France's Efficiency in the Nuclear Fuel Cycle: What Can 'Oui' Learn?

A one-stop-shop for spent fuel management is one way to describe Russia’s Mining and Chemical Complex (MCC) near Krasnoyarsk, Siberia. The complex is designed to handle spent fuel at its different stages, all at one site.    The strength of France’s national spent fuel policy, in addition to tight legislation and a strong regulatory body, can be attributed to the standardization of its nuclear fleet and the policy of recycling its spent fuel, French experts have said.
