But why not put this heat to good use? In London, that's precisely what they are planning to do; generated heat by the underground will become a source to warm neighboring houses.

Every month we come across numerous solutions and exciting new technologies that somehow tie into the global renewable energy transition. Some of these are promising, others might turn out not be, but we like to keep you informed on projects that otherwise might fly under your radar. For example, this new 'personal carbon sequestration' device uses algae to filter CO2 out of the atmosphere.
Another promising project uses the natural chemical breakdown of a specific rock to sequester CO2. Read more after the jump.

Below are two articles on promising battery technology. Researchers at Tesla have found that lithium-ion NMC532 graphite battery cells have the potential to stay structurally sound for over 1 million miles, and grid-connected energy storage to last more than 20 years under daily use. SoC Other News
$700bn a year is given to farmers in the form of subsidies, of which only 1% is used to benefit the environment, a new study has found. Much of this money instead promotes high-emission cattle production, forest destruction, and pollution from the overuse of fertilizer. Read more on the subject in this article.
'A place where we never go outside' is part of the title of this article that appeared in The Guardian. It describes the future of Las Vegas, the fastest-warming city in the United States, where rising temperatures are already taking its toll. Drastic measures are necessary to keep Las Vegas liveable. Maybe they should look at investing in buildings like these, which produce more energy than they use.
