City Announces Boards and Commissions Openings

The City of Fayetteville is looking to its citizens to help fill vacancies for the following boards and commissions:

  • Stormwater Advisory Commission
  • Senior Citizens Advisory Council
  • Fayetteville-Cumberland Economic Development Corporation 

Applications will be accepted until 8 a.m. on Sept. 11, 2019. All qualified applications will be presented to the Appointments Committee in September. The Fayetteville City Council will approve boards and commissions members at a regular meeting in September. The City will accept applications via the City website at www.fayettevillenc.gov. Citizens should scroll over “Government” and choose “Boards and Commissions” under the “City Council” section.

All-American City Jazz Festival

The first City-sponsored event following the Fayetteville Woodpeckers’ inaugural season will be held in Segra Stadium Friday through Sunday, Oct. 25-27. The All-American City Jazz Festival will be presented by the Sandhills Jazz Society and Fayetteville-Cumberland Youth Council. On Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m., the BlackWater Band and the Embers featuring Craig Woolard will perform. On Saturday, Oct. 26 at 4 p.m., jazz stars Willie Bradley, Avery Sunshine, Julian Vaughn, Eric Darius and Brian Culbertson will hit the stage. On Sunday, Oct. 27 at 4 p.m., local high school and college jazz students will honor legends of the same genre with musical performances. The Fayetteville-Cumberland Arts Council is also a promotional partner of the event. The festival received a funding grant from the Cumberland County Tourism Development Authority. FAST Offers Mobile Ticketing to Fayetteville College Students

FAST offers safe, convenient and affordable transportation for students to major locations including Cross Creek Mall, WalMart Supercenters, multiple movie theaters, restaurants, entertainment, Fort Bragg South PX and the Cool Spring Downtown District, featuring 100+ businesses including restaurants, event spots and the brand new state-of-the-art Segra Stadium, home of the Fayetteville Woodpeckers baseball team. Semester passes are available now through Token Transit, a mobile ticketing app. Each semester pass is $55, which includes unlimited rides. More Info

Join FAST for the 2019 Annual Bus Roadeo!

FAST will be holding our annual driver skills competition Roadeo on Sunday, October 6 at noon at the FAST Administrative Office at 455 Grove Street. The roadeo is a competition that tests the skills and knowledge of bus operators. The competition puts participants through a precise 11-point obstacle course that represents the types of manuevers a bus operator would perform while on his or her daily route. This event is open to the public. Volunteers are needed to judge each obstacle. Interested persons should contact Melissa Moses at mmoses@ci.fay.nc.us.   

Visit the Transportation & Local History Museum

The Fayetteville Area Transportation and Local History Museum is the hub for history in Downtown Fayetteville. From the history enthusiast to families looking for fun, there is something for everyone here. The museum is located at 325 Franklin Street in downtown Fayetteville and open to the public Tues.-Sat. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
